Weather forecasting using a variety of instruments including thermometers for measuring temperature, barometers for measuring air pressure, rain gauge for measuring precipitation, and anemometer for measuring wind speed. Apart from these, weather satellites orbiting around the earth take snapshots of clouds to judge their movement. Weather radars are used for shooting radio signals into the clouds to determine rate of precipitation. These also ascertain its motion, and type, whether they are rain, snow, or hail clouds. Modern weather radars are mostly pulse-doppler radars that are capable of detecting the motion of rain droplets, in addition to the intensity of precipitation.
