REDDING, Calif., Aug. 7. 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- During the weekend of September 26-28 an invited group of entrepreneurs, startup founders and officers, CEOs and investors will gather off the beaten path at Mt. Shasta, for the NorCal Venture Challenge. The Shasta Economic Development Corporation is organizing the event, which will feature demanding physical exploits, thoughtful interaction and a rare opportunity to engage with others in the startup and tech industry.
The Challenge is limited to no more than 20 invited guests and approved applicants.
Hope Seth, Director of Entrepreneurial Development, said, "Unlike conferences and summits, this weekend is not about what you know. It's to see what you are made of. Founders and execs of both new and established companies will test their limits through daytime physical challenges in the great outdoors of Mt. Shasta followed by evening mastermind activities, fireside conversations and meals prepared by a private French chef, all overlooking beautiful Lake Siskiyou."
Participants will include Rob Innes (Innespace), Mike Frank (Level 3 Communications), Jared Friedman (Scribd), Luke Miner (youcaring.org), Tyler Jewell (Codenvy), and other undisclosed industry movers.
Activities during this one-of-a-kind weekend include geolocation-based relay challenges, ziplining, kayaking, rock climbing, rappelling and experiencing water/air adventure craft from Innespace -- the Sea Breacher and the Jet-o-Vator. These physical challenges will be full of twists that invoke collaborative problem solving.
Located a few hours' drive from Silicon Valley, Shasta County has been quietly undergoing a transformation into a hub for startup companies. This rugged natural location has evolved into an incubator for new technologies and innovations in app development, GIS mapping, and recreational sport and drone technologies that require the climate, geography and wide-open spaces Shasta County has to offer.
The region provides free incubation space, a robust angel investment network, gatherings, pitch breakfasts, a mentoring program and a 20,000 square foot technology village under construction. Today, more than 30 startups, ranging from early to growth stage, are located in Shasta County including 5 Silicon Valley based tech companies, who have recently placed offices in Redding.
