Domain.com Launches New York City’s Most Anticipated New Icon, The .NYC Domain Extension

Domain.com, part of Endurance International Group (NASDAQ:EIGI), and a global leader in domain names, today announced its launch of New York City's hotly anticipated new digital real estate, the .NYC domain extension. Domain.com encourages all New York City businesses, organizations, and residents with a physical address in New York City that want to own part of the New York brand to spread the news and secure the names they want by pre-registering their own unique .NYC domains during Domain.com’s exclusive "Landrush" phase.

The high-profile .NYC, one of over 150 new domain extensions launched this year, is one of the most anticipated city-based domain extensions to date. As the official domain extension of the city described as the financial and cultural leader of the world with more than 8.4 million people who speak as many as 800 languages, .NYC represents a pioneering new class of geographic domain extensions that have both local and global reach.

“Anyone who’s ever visited Manhattan knows that the city transmits a certain lively entrepreneurial energy that’s catching and contagious,” said Brian Unruh, General Manager for Domain.com. “New York City represents unlimited possibility. This first ever .NYC Landrush is a momentous, once-in-a-generation opportunity for New Yorkers to indelibly link themselves to the official history and future of New York,” added Unruh.

The perfect brand icon for a city that refuses to sleep, the .NYC domain extension signifies New York City itself. Local businesses that use a .NYC domain can infuse their websites, social media, and marketing with the fiercely local, world-class cachet of New York City.

“Any concept that can harness New York’s enthusiasm is incredibly powerful. For local NYC businesses and tech startups that want to leverage the power of brand New York to leap industry conventions and disrupt markets, a .NYC web address is the perfect propellant,” added Unruh.

Businesses, organizations, and residents of the five boroughs interested in increasing their chances of securing the names they want should order during the Priority Pre-Registration (also called Landrush) period for early access. If two or more people apply for the same domain name during this period, an auction will determine who is awarded the domain. Domain.com customers who are not awarded the domain names they applied for will receive a full refund.

The Priority Pre-Registration/Landrush phase ends October 3, 2014. On October 8, the .NYC domain extension enters General Availability, and .NYC domains can be searched for and registered immediately in real-time.

The Internet of Things is a misnomer. That implies that everything is on the Internet, and that simply should not be - especially for things that are blurring the line between medical devices that stimulate like a pacemaker and quantified self-sensors like a pedometer or pulse tracker. The mesh of things that we manage must be segmented into zones of trust for sensing data, transmitting data, receiving command and control administrative changes, and peer-to-peer mesh messaging. In his session a...

The web app is Agile. The REST API is Agile. The testing and planning are Agile. But alas, Data infrastructures certainly are not. Once an application matures, changing the shape or indexing scheme of data often forces at best a top down planning exercise and at worst includes schema changes which force downtime. The time has come for a new approach that fundamentally advances the agility of distributed data infrastructures. Come learn about a new solution to the problems faced by software orga...
The OpenStack cloud operating system includes Trove, a database abstraction layer. Rather than applications connecting directly to a specific type of database, they connect to Trove, which in turn connects to one or more specific databases. One target database is Postgres Plus Cloud Database, which includes its own RESTful API. Trove was originally developed around MySQL, whose interfaces are significantly less complicated than those of the Postgres cloud database. In his session at 16th Cloud...

While great strides have been made relative to the video aspects of remote collaboration, audio technology has basically stagnated. Typically all audio is mixed to a single monaural stream and emanates from a single point, such as a speakerphone or a speaker associated with a video monitor. There is no question that the cloud is where businesses want to host data. Until recently hypervisor virtualization was the most widely used method in cloud computing. Recently virtual containers have been gaining in popularity, and for good reason. In the debate between virtual machines and containers, the latter have been seen as the new kid on the block – and like other emerging technology have had some initial shortcomings. However, the container space has evolved drastically since coming on...
