HOUSTON, Aug. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A team of physicians and athletic trainers from Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital provided continuous medical support during the 27th Annual Challenge Soccer Club's Texas Shootout tournament recently held in Houston.
The tournament is the top women's college recruiting event of the year and drew players from state, regional and national level teams from across the country.
"With the time our physicians and athletic trainers gave during this event, we were able to provide a high level of care for these players," said Scott Rand, M.D., a primary care sports medicine physician at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. "From concussions and facial lacerations to ankle and knee injuries and allergic reactions, we helped the athletes stay at their best during the competition."
Houston Methodist Orthopedics and Sports Medicine physicians and athletic trainers partner with the Challenge Soccer Club to provide medical support for Houston-area players throughout the year.
"We had so many families compliment us on having incredible medical support," said Pat O'Toole, director of coaching for Challenge Soccer Club. "Their jaws drop when I tell them that this is the standard of care the Challenge Soccer Club families receive every day from our relationship with Houston Methodist."
Despite a few weather delays, the tournament, which spanned two Houston parks and lasted three days, was considered a success. Physicians who volunteered time for the event include Rand, Bruce Moseley, M.D., John Seaberg, M.D., and Gregory Seelhoefer, M.D.
