"Extra Mile Day" List Soars to 200 Cities... 500 Expected

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/14/14 -- Two hundred Mayors from across the United States have already stepped forward and declared November 1, 2014, Extra Mile Day... a day to recognize the capacity we each have to create positive change in our families, organizations and communities when we go the extra mile.

In association with Extra Mile America, mayors from across the country on both sides of the political aisle have come together to remind people that the greatest success and change in life comes from individual and organizational effort. The vision of motivational author and change-maker, Shawn Anderson, "Extra Mile Day" was created in 2009 with 23 inaugural cities. On November 1, 2013, the declaration was celebrated by 444 cities.

At a time when many are demanding changes in service and opportunity, Extra Mile Day celebrates individuals and organizations that have chosen to create positive change in their communities by going extra mile.

"It's not a government program, a boss, or a spouse that will make the changes we desire. That is only wishing for life to get better," says Anderson, a motivational speaker and the author A Better Life: An Inspiring Story About Starting Over. "Taking personal responsibility and going the extra mile is where change is most readily created. Extra Mile Day is a reminder of the power we each have to create change at any time on any day."
