NORTH VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/15/14 -- Canadian Heritage
The Government of Canada has provided the North Vancouver Museum and Archives (NVMA) with $32,438 in funding through the Museums Assistance Program.
Funding will assist the NVMA in undertaking a collections-management project, which includes developing a comprehensive plan to pack and move the collection, as well as designing a new collection storage space. These activities are in preparation for the Museum's move to a restored building in the historic shipyards on North Vancouver's waterfront. This project will ensure long-term public access to artifacts in the Museum's collection.
The Honourable Andrew Saxton, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament (North Vancouver), announced this support today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
-- Founded in 1972, the NVMA is mandated by the City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver to preserve and facilitate an understanding of history, contemporary issues and ideas relating to North Vancouver. -- The NVMA operates a museum and archives and offers seasonal programs throughout the community. The museum has a collection of 20,000 artifacts. -- In 2017, the NVMA expects to move into a new museum facility in North Vancouver's historic shipyards as part of a neighbourhood revitalization project. -- The Museums Assistance Program provides funding to Canadian museums and related institutions for projects that foster excellence in museum activities and that facilitate access to the treasures of our collective heritage.
"Our Government is proud to support the efforts of local heritage institutions, which play an important role in the development of communities across Canada. Organizations like the North Vancouver Museum and Archives play an important part in sustaining the economic future of Canadian communities, as well as facilitating access to our shared heritage."
-The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
"The North Vancouver Museum and Archives connects residents and visitors alike to the rich heritage of our community. This funding ensures these historic treasures, like artifacts from the Second World War and the remarkable history they represent, will be preserved and shared with future generations."
-Andrew Saxton, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament (North Vancouver)
"This investment by the Government of Canada will help us prepare the Museum collection for a future move. Thank you to Canadian Heritage for supporting the Museum in its quest to improve the care, preservation and accessibility of North Vancouver's public collections."
