BELLEVUE, WA--(Marketwired - August 19, 2014) - Limeade, a technology company that builds happy, healthy, high-performing workforces for Fortune 1000 companies, today announced it will power the State of Washington's new wellness program, SmartHealth.
Launching in January 2015, SmartHealth is designed to drive sustainable, healthy behavior change and positive well-being results among Washington state employees and other eligible subscribers enrolled in the Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB) Program. The state of Washington is the largest employer in Washington, with approximately 108,000 eligible employees across 150 state agencies and higher-education institutions. An additional 81,000 dependents and retirees are eligible for SmartHealth.
"Washington is a national leader in delivering high-quality, low-cost health care, and the launch of SmartHealth will provide our employees support to get healthy and stay healthy," commented Washington Governor Jay Inslee. "Wellness and prevention is a critical part of our efforts to reduce family health care costs while improving the health, well-being and performance of state employees."
Through SmartHealth, the state will join 83% of large and mid-sized employers in the U.S. who now offer incentives to help employees become more aware of their health, access preventive services and take actions to improve. SmartHealth is provided by the PEBB Program, which purchases and coordinates health insurance for state and higher-education employees and retirees. K-12 school districts and employer groups (such as cities, counties, municipalities, and tribal governments) may also participate in PEBB health coverage.
Using Limeade's online and mobile engagement platform, SmartHealth participants will receive personalized improvement plans based on their health assessment results. The Limeade system also motivates participants to engage in fun, inspiring, and impactful improvement challenges. The program helps drive completion of the State's tobacco cessation program, diabetes prevention and management programs, and many other resources designed to improve health and performance. The State of Washington will make SmartHealth available to its eligible PEBB non-Medicare population.
"With a workforce ranging from office workers to law enforcement officers to educators, we require world-class technology and an easy-to-use interface that actively inspires employee engagement," said Louis McDermott, director of the Health Care Authority's Public Employees Benefits (PEB) division. "Limeade understands the complexity of our organization and how to bring our culture to life in a way that will resonate with our diverse employee population. SmartHealth meets our employees where they are, whether that's at an office desk, on a state highway, or in a classroom."
"We are honored to serve the great State of Washington and its mission-driven people," added Henry Albrecht, CEO of Limeade. "We are committed to providing the Washington State Health Care Authority a fresh, engaging and valuable solution. Their commitment to state residents is palpable and infectious. We're thrilled to be a part of it."

Due of the rise of Hadoop, many enterprises are now deploying their first small clusters of 10 to 20 servers. At this small scale, the complexity of operating the cluster looks and feels like general data center servers. It is not until the clusters scale, as they inevitably do, when the pain caused by the exponential complexity becomes apparent. We've seen this problem occur time and time again. In his session at Big Data Expo, Greg Bruno, Vice President of Engineering and co-founder of StackI...

Once the decision has been made to move part or all of a workload to the cloud, a methodology for selecting that workload needs to be established. How do you move to the cloud? What does the discovery, assessment and planning look like? What workloads make sense? Which cloud model makes sense for each workload? What are the considerations for how to select the right cloud model? And how does that fit in with the overall IT transformation?

You use an agile process; your goal is to make your organization more agile. But what about your data infrastructure? The truth is, today's databases are anything but agile - they are effectively static repositories that are cumbersome to work with, difficult to change, and cannot keep pace with application demands. Performance suffers as a result, and it takes far longer than it should to deliver new features and capabilities needed to make your organization competitive. As your application an...

As the world moves from DevOps to NoOps, application deployment to the cloud ought to become a lot simpler. However, applications have been architected with a much tighter coupling than it needs to be which makes deployment in different environments and migration between them harder. The microservices architecture, which is the basis of many new age distributed systems such as OpenStack, Netflix and so on is at the heart of CloudFoundry – a complete developer-oriented Platform as a Service (PaaS...
