The R8300 is designed for operation in extremely harsh environments such as those encountered in combat or non-combat military operations. The unit, qualified to stringent MIL-STD 810G, MIL-STD 461F, ANSI/ISA 12.12.0.1 (formerly known as UL-1604 Class 1 Division 2) and IP65 specifications, fulfills the military's need for very rugged computing products, without compromising functionality and flexibility.

Meets Or Exceeds Demanding Military Specs
The DURABOOK R8300 notebook exceeds or meets the most difficult environmental specifications, ensuring it will operate reliably in the most demanding applications, including "mission critical", where, if it doesn't function properly, the user could find him or herself in a life or death situation.

Its MIL-STD 810G ratings for shock, drop, and vibration protection, as well as the ability to withstand a wide-temperature range (-22 degrees F to 140 degrees F/-30 degrees to 60 degrees C) ensure dependability. Its IP65 rating delivers sealing from damaging water and dust intrusion that may be encountered in desert or tropical forest combat zones. Qualifying under the strict MIL-STD 461F Army Ground and Air Force standard allows the R8300 to be confidently used by army, navy and air force military forces, with 10 testing specifications related to Conducted Emissions, Conducted Susceptibility, Radiated Emissions, and Radiated Susceptibility.

Superior Connectivity
With its superior connectivity, the DURABOOK R8300 is ideal for applications where situational awareness is critical. Where are one's fellow soldiers? Where is the enemy? It features integrated WWAN; a discrete GPS module; and an Intel® Dual Band Wireless 7260 module that delivers 802.11A/B/G/N and AC. Additionally, the mini card slot for Wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4.0 class 1 combo card can deliver even more flexibility.

Information flow is essential for logistics and multiple other military tasks. When not in a battlefield situation, the R8300 greatly aids communications up and down the chain of command. It provides optimum power consumption, weight, and performance through its use of an Intel i7-3667U processor (2.0Ghz to 3.2Ghz turbo boost option available).

Advanced Security Protection
While security is always an issue with computer usage, it is even more critical for the military. The R8300 has several valuable security features, including both administrator and boot password protection; Absolute Computrace support, which allows remote management for continual tracking and securing all endpoints within a single cloud-based console; TPM 1.2; Smart Card Reader; Kensington lock; Stealth mode operation; and a Fingerprint Reader option.

Plenty of Storage
A quick-release HDD-storage allows users to easily access and swap HDDs or SSDs simply by turning a couple of knobs. Additional flexibility is provided through a Super Multi-I/O Optical Drive, while two DDR3 SODIMM slots provide up to 16GB of memory.

Other Features
The R8300 notebook boasts a large 13.3" TFT touch-screen LCD display with a backlit keyboard option and direct-sunlight readability, a definite necessity for troops in bright, mid-day through late-afternoon sun. Its Lithium-Ion battery provides eight hours of power. If duty calls for a longer life, its second-battery design can accommodate another battery that extends life while adding hot-swap support.
