Teamsters Local 264 Members Vote Overwhelmingly to Improve Working Conditions

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y., Aug. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Teamsters Local 264 members at Stroehmann Bakeries and Grocery Haulers Inc. (GHI) in Olean, N.Y., have voted overwhelmingly to ratify contracts providing for significant workplace improvements.

Fifteen route sales drivers and garage mechanics at Stroehmann voted 14-1 in favor of a successor agreement that improves wages and maintains health care benefits.

There are 25 transport drivers who transport Stroehmann products, but are subcontracted to work for GHI. The GHI drivers voted 20-4 to ratify a first agreement that improves pay, health care coverage and time off. The drivers will also maintain their Stroehmann seniority. Through an additional memorandum of understanding with the company, it was agreed that if GHI is no longer Stroehmann's logistics company for any reason in the future, the drivers' jobs will be protected.

"We are pleased we were able to negotiate a strong agreement after being on an extension since the end of last year. These agreements provide six years of improved wages and protect the members' health care and retirement," said Brian Dickman, president and principal officer of Teamsters Local 264 in Cheektowaga, N.Y.

"We are happy to negotiate these strong agreements and thankful to the Teamsters National Bakery and Laundry Conference Director Dennis Raymond and the Conference for their assistance. Jeff Padellaro, from the Bakery Conference and Teamsters Local 633 in New Hampshire, was instrumental in securing these contracts for our members," said Tony Vaccaro, business agent with Teamsters Local 264.
