Popular Gilbert and Scottsdale, AZ Gastroenterologist Now Offers Canadian and American Screening Colonoscopies

At Weinberg Gastrointestinal, patients can now receive both American and Canadian screening colonoscopies in Gilbert, Arizona

GILBERT, Ariz., Aug. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Colon health is a big deal for patients in North America, which is why Dr. Andrew M Weinberg is now offering both Canadian and American screening colonoscopies to patients. The screening guidelines are slightly different in these countries.

Gilbert, AZ gastroenterologist Dr. Andrew M Weinberg, DO is a board-certified physician who has both internist and hospitalist experience. He diagnoses and treats patients who have mild to severe issues related to their digestive systems.

Problems in the colon and intestines can cause a number of pressing health concerns such as polyps, chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, gas, irritable bowel syndrome, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Patients of a certain age are also strongly encouraged to get tested for colon cancer, which is one of the most common forms of cancer in North America. A colonoscopy is regarded as the most reliable test for diagnosing colon cancer and other conditions.

Colonoscopy Screening Guidelines
A colonoscopy is a procedure where a gastroenterologist inserts a tube into the digestive tract that takes video or pictures of the patient's rectum, colon and intestines. It typically requires sedation and usually takes 30-60 minutes. Screening guidelines are established to inform patients on when it's advisable to have one of these tests done by Gilbert, AZ gastroenterologist Dr. Weinberg.

The American Cancer Society, American college of gastroenterology, the American College of Radiology, and the U.S. Multi-Society Task Force on Colorectal Cancer are some of the organizations that oversee the American screening guidelines. The Canadian guidelines are established by the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care (2001), and the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology/Canadian Digestive Health Foundation (2004).

American guidelines suggest that average risk patients (no symptoms or family history) have colonoscopies between ages 50 to 74 (every 10 years). High-risk patients are encouraged to start at age 40 or ten years earlier than the age that a family member was diagnosed.

Canadian guidelines encourage colonoscopies for average risk patients 50 and older. For high risk patients with a history of colon cancer in the family that was diagnosed before age 60, guidelines suggest a colonoscopy every 5 years beginning at 40 (or 10 years before than the youngest diagnosis of colon cancer in a family member).

Gilbert, AZ gastroenterologist Dr. Andrew M Weinberg is aware of the guidelines that have been established by American and Canadian officials. Patients are encouraged to call his office at (480) 745-3690 to ask about screening guidelines or visit http://www.weinberggi.com to request an appointment time online.

What do a firewall and a fortress have in common? They are no longer strong enough to protect the valuables housed inside. Like the walls of an old fortress, the cracks in the firewall are allowing the bad guys to slip in - unannounced and unnoticed. By the time these thieves get in, the damage is already done and the network is already compromised. Intellectual property is easily slipped out the back door leaving no trace of forced entry. If we want to reign in on these cybercriminals, it's hig...
