September starts with a bang with the 2nd edition of Lockn' - Interlocking Music Festival in Arrington, Virginia, September 4 - 7. Featuring headliners such as Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, The Allman Brothers Band in their last festival appearance ever, Willie Nelson, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, and Wilco, to name only a few, this music celebration is an event not to be missed. Unique to the Lockn' Festival are two side-by-side main stages, providing the opportunity for non-stop, interlocking music. In the Local tent, attendees will find top area chefs interlocking with their producers and farmers to serve up high quality, fresh food as well as innovative programming on the "Edible" Stage. The Brewers' Village and Lockn' Vineyard will feature unique local craft beer and wine. Family-friendly activities are also scheduled. Music lovers will also not want to miss the 15th season of the Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival, September 7 - 18. This fine festival presents a wide variety of classical music played by a very diverse group of internationally acclaimed musicians. Again this year, the Festival will present a four-day weekend of concerts starting on September 11; it will include a free lunchtime concert and contemporary works at The Southern Café & Music Hall on the Downtown Mall, that festival-goers will remember as a modern performance that challenges the traditional concepts of sound. Presented by Starr Hill Brewery and Beer Run, Top of the Hops will showcase the growing popularity of craft beers from around the country and the world in a relaxed and friendly environment. Patrons will have access to two-ounce samples of over 150 craft beers in the Abita, Blue Mountain, Goose Island, and Miller's Downtown Beer Gardens. On that same date, September 20, agriculture comes downtown with the very first Main Street Agriculture event. It will highlight Albemarle County Agriculture at Lee Park and on the Downtown Mall. There will be agriculture education displays, events and demonstrations, live animals, children's activities, hayrides, and a few surprise events. Downtown restaurants will offer meals featuring fresh, local, farm products. The retail shops will be encouraged to focus on agriculture, family. Albemarle County Farm Bureau and the Local Food Hub will sponsor a "Farm-to-Family Table" event on Friday evening. The Main Street Arena will sponsor a Public Skate for Agriculture Education on Friday, September 19 (6-8:45 PM), and host a cooking demo by Downtown Restaurants (Sponsored by Brookville). On September 26, the Tom Tom Founders Festival returns with a free event, The Fall Block Party at McGuffey Art Center. This event brings great bands, public art, food trucks, and a beer garden to the front lawn of Downtown Charlottesville's historic schoolhouse-turned-gallery. Step inside for open artist studios and a C'ville tech social. The Block Party also celebrates the launch of Founding C'ville, an initiative honoring innovators, artists, and community leaders who create great things in Charlottesville, by featuring their profiles on lamppost banners across the Downtown Mall.
