RICHARDSON, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 08/26/14 -- Hitachi Communication Technologies America, Inc. (Hitachi CTA) today announced the availability of its massively scalable MME/SGSN on VMware vSphere®. This solution runs on commercial off-the-shelf servers from multiple suppliers, including Hitachi.
Hitachi CTA had previously demonstrated this capability at MWC in Barcelona in February 2014. Working closely with VMware, Hitachi CTA has evolved its carrier-grade MME/SGSN platform to be fully virtualized. This solution addresses the evolving needs of service providers to quickly deploy carrier-grade Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) applications in a Telco Cloud, without the need to invest in discrete, proprietary physical network elements. Hitachi CTA is leveraging the robust and highly available VMware vSphere® architecture, creating a truly elastic network function that maximizes the benefits of a virtual network element, and adds capacity without complexity. This includes:
- Subscriber sessions -- enabling the millions of new LTE and machine to machine (M2M) devices; and
- Transactions processing -- managing the dramatic increase in 4G device transactions rates; and
- Radio access network connectivity -- exceeding the fan-out required by the increasing deployment of small cells.
"Hitachi CTA continues to lead the market in rapidly delivering a highly functional and high performance MME/SGSN VNF architected to scale well beyond 20 million simultaneously active subscribers," said Reg Wilcox, CEO of Hitachi CTA. "VMware provides a proven carrier-grade NFV platform that enables us to meet the performance and scalability requirements of the largest mobile service providers in the world."
"VMware is pleased to be working with Hitachi CTA to deliver a carrier-grade MME/SGSN virtualized solution," said Dave O'Callaghan, senior vice president, Global Partner Organization, VMware. "The use of VMware vSphere® 5.5 enables mobile operators to accelerate virtualization of their mobile networks to lower operational costs and capital expenditures, which are essential to meet the challenges posed by steadily increasing data demands."
Technical and market trials with Hitachi CTA virtualized MME/SGSN solution on VMware vSphere are in progress with leading operators to demonstrate Hitachi CTA's highly flexible and scalable architecture along with feature-rich capabilities in moving legacy networks to an NFV architecture. Hitachi CTA's virtualized MME/SGSN is platform agnostic and supports a mobile operator's preferred platform choice.
