SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - August 27, 2014) - Cotap, an enterprise mobile messaging service, today announced several major new features designed to improve the user experience and accessibility of relevant people, groups and files. In addition, new Web and Desktop apps provide workers with more options to participate in Cotap conversations, with messages and notifications seamlessly synced across devices.
"Getting work done from your smartphone is finally a reality, because we're no longer simply cramming desktop tools into a small screen. Modern companies are rethinking entire workflows now that powerful software no longer requires the user to be sitting down at a desk," said Jim Patterson, co-founder and CEO, Cotap. "With mobile-first enterprise apps like Cotap, workers have anywhere, anytime access to the people and information they need to get work done, and they can complete tasks standing in line for coffee, waiting on an elevator or walking to meet a client. Employees appreciate more flexibility and alignment, while businesses win with more engaged and productive workers."
New Cotap features include:
Web & Desktop Apps
With the introduction of both web and desktop apps, Cotap delivers a continuous experience across all devices and provides users who work primarily at a desk a way to easily participate in Cotap conversations. Employees can now start a project from the mobile app and then pick up that project again later from their laptop or tablet without missing a beat.
- Synced notifications mean that reading a message on the Desktop app will also mark it as read on the mobile app, completely eliminating duplicate notifications
- Drag and drop functionality allows users to quickly share photos
- Desktop app is available today on OS X in the Mac App Store
Cotap now integrates with the four major cloud storage services: Box, Dropbox, Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. The integrations enable users to share and view relevant files no matter which service they use, all within Cotap.
- Connect one or more document storage services to a Cotap account at the same time, setup takes just minutes
- Quickly send a file to one or many people with just a few taps, similar to sharing a photo in most messaging apps
- Recently modified files will show up first, so relevant documents are always the most accessible
People & Group Directories
Fast access to the right people within a company is fundamental to reaping the benefits of Cotap. The new People and Group Directories are now accessible from the main navigation in the mobile app, so finding and messaging people and teams can be done in seconds with just a few taps.
- The People Directory autopopulates with contacts who share the same corporate email domain, so there is no need to add anyone manually
- Pin favorite contacts and groups to the top of the list for fast access and rearrange favorites by dragging and dropping
- Easily create new groups, add new members, rename or leave a group at any time
- Create a group message based on meeting participants in the Calendar
All new Cotap features and integrations are available immediately. To access the Web app or download the Desktop app, go to cotap.com/apps

Some developers believe that monitoring is a function of the operations team. Some operations teams firmly believe that monitoring the systems they maintain is sufficient to run the business successfully. Most of them are wrong. The complexity of today's applications have gone far and beyond the capabilities of "traditional" system-level monitoring tools and approaches and requires much broader knowledge of business and applications as a whole. The goal of DevOps is to connect all aspects of app...

When an enterprise builds a hybrid IaaS cloud connecting its data center to one or more public clouds, security is often a major topic along with the other challenges involved. Security is closely intertwined with the networking choices made for the hybrid cloud. Traditional networking approaches for building a hybrid cloud try to kludge together the enterprise infrastructure with the public cloud. Consequently this approach requires risky, deep "surgery" including changes to firewalls, subnets...

DevOps is all about agility. However, you don't want to be on a high-speed bus to nowhere. The right DevOps approach controls velocity with a tight feedback loop that not only consists of operational data but also incorporates business context. With a business context in the decision making, the right business priorities are incorporated, which results in a higher value creation. In his session at DevOps Summit, Todd Rader, Solutions Architect at AppDynamics, discussed key monitoring techniques...

The security devil is always in the details of the attack: the ones you've endured, the ones you prepare yourself to fend off, and the ones that, you fear, will catch you completely unaware and defenseless. The Internet of Things (IoT) is nothing if not an endless proliferation of details. It's the vision of a world in which continuous Internet connectivity and addressability is embedded into a growing range of human artifacts, into the natural world, and even into our smartphones, appliances, a...

How do APIs and IoT relate? The answer is not as simple as merely adding an API on top of a dumb device, but rather about understanding the architectural patterns for implementing an IoT fabric. There are typically two or three trends: Exposing the device to a management framework Exposing that management framework to a business centric logic Exposing that business layer and data to end users. This last trend is the IoT stack, which involves a new shift in the separation of what stuff happe...

The Internet of Things is tied together with a thin strand that is known as time. Coincidentally, at the core of nearly all data analytics is a timestamp. In his session at Internet of @ThingsExpo, Jim Scott, Director of Enterprise Strategy & Architecture at MapR Technologies, discussed single-value, geo-spatial, and log time series dat...
