Make Sober Driving a Priority This Holiday Weekend

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 08/28/14 -- As Canadians count down to the last long weekend of summer, MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are taking this opportunity to thank the millions of people who always make sober driving a top priority.

"The majority of people do the right thing. They take responsibility for their own safety, and the safety of others, by arranging sober rides home if they plan on drinking," said MADD Canada National President Angeliki Souranis. "We are grateful to everyone who makes that commitment."

Still, there are those who do not see the risks of impaired driving and continue to put themselves and others in danger. Every day, on average, impaired driving kills 4 people and injures another 175.

To those drivers who continue to think it is no big deal to get behind the wheel after drinking, MADD Canada and Allstate Canada ask them to take a minute to seriously think about the potential outcomes and consequences.

"When you drive impaired, you are putting yourself, your passengers and other motorists at risk," Ms. Souranis said. "You need to consider the impact, on your family and their well-being, that comes with an arrest and conviction for impaired driving. You could go to jail, and there are also the financial costs if you have to pay hefty fines, lose your licence or face significant increases in your insurance. Driving impaired is simply not worth any of those risks."

This holiday weekend, MADD Canada and Allstate Canada are once again asking Canadians to make a commitment to sober driving. If you're going to be drinking, take public transit or a taxi, arrange a designated driver or plan to stay over. If you see a driver you suspect is impaired, call 911 to report it to police.

"In our business, we see the terrible consequences of vehicle crashes all the time," said John O'Donnell, President and CEO of Allstate Insurance Company of Canada. "Crashes caused by impaired driving are entirely preventable and Allstate Canada agents and employees across the country are dedicated to working with MADD Canada to prevent the senseless devastation caused by impaired driving. No one's summer should end in tragedy caused by an impaired driver."

Collecting data in the field and configuring multitudes of unique devices is a time-consuming, labor-intensive process that can stretch IT resources. Horan & Bird [H&B], Australia’s fifth-largest Solar Panel Installer, wanted to automate sensor data collection and monitoring from its solar panels and integrate the data with its business and marketing systems. After data was collected and structured, two major areas needed to be addressed: improving developer workflows and extending access to a b...
When an enterprise builds a hybrid IaaS cloud connecting its data center to one or more public clouds, security is often a major topic along with the other challenges involved. Security is closely intertwined with the networking choices made for the hybrid cloud. Traditional networking approaches for building a hybrid cloud try to kludge together the enterprise infrastructure with the public cloud. Consequently this approach requires risky, deep "surgery" including changes to firewalls, subnets...

The true value of the Internet of Things (IoT) lies not just in the data, but through the services that protect the data, perform the analysis and present findings in a usable way. With many IoT elements rooted in traditional IT components, Big Data and IoT isn’t just a play for enterprise. In fact, the IoT presents SMBs with the prospect of launching entirely new activities and exploring innovative areas. CompTIA research identifies several areas where IoT is expected to have the greatest impac...
2015 predictions circa 1970: houses anticipate our needs and adapt, city infrastructure is citizen and situation aware, office buildings identify and preprocess you. Today smart buildings have no such collective conscience, no shared set of fundamental services to identify, predict and synchronize around us. LiveSpace and M2Mi are changing that. LiveSpace Smart Environment devices deliver over the M2Mi IoT Platform real time presence, awareness and intent analytics as a service to local connecte...
Amazon and Google have built software-defined data centers (SDDCs) that deliver massively scalable services with great efficiency. Yet, building SDDCs has proven to be a near impossibility for companies without hyper-scale resources. How do software owners track the usag...

The term culture has had a polarizing effect among DevOps supporters. Some propose that culture change is critical for success with DevOps, but are remiss to define culture.
