Irvine Marriott Goes 'Over The Edge' To Support Local Boy Scouts

Irvine, CA, hotel to host fundraiser that allows participants to rappel off of the 17-story building

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Helping others has never felt so exhilarating! Local Boy Scouts are challenging their supporters and Irvine residents to go Over the Edge with an upcoming charity event at the 17-story Irvine Marriott.

Raising money for the Boy Scouts of America's Orange County Council, the Irvine hotel is hosting the first ever Orange County Over the Edge event, where 80 participants will rappel off of its building. Taking place Oct. 16 -17, 2014, this event in Irvine, CA, is a thrill with a cause and requires raising a minimum of $1,000 to participate. The amazing views from the top of the hotel, coupled with the exhilarating experience of going over the edge, can only be matched by the feeling of fulfillment supporters will receive when helping a program that has such a positive influence on the country's youth.

To become an "Edger," participants must register and reserve their spot quickly, as only 80 spaces are available. Candidates must be 14 years or older and weigh between 110 to 300 pounds. Upon registration, participants will be promoted to set up an online fundraising page, set a donation goal and add a picture with a special message about going "over." Reaching out to friends, family members and colleagues to inform them of the fundraiser will increase awareness and donations. Participants who raise the $1,000 donation or more will not only get to scale down the Irvine hotel for the thrill of a lifetime but will receive an official Over the Edge T-shirt to show off.

Residents less daring can still show their support by helping the rappelling participants reach their fundraising goals. Donating through the website is simple, fast and completely secure, and all money helps support the scouting life skills development programs in Orange County. The contribution also is tax deductible. While it's not the same as scaling a building, donating to such an admirable organization will feel equally invigorating — with no helmet or harness required!

Those not familiar with the Orange County Council Boy Scouts of America will be impressed to learn what the organization can achieve with the help of donations. In 2013, the council delivered programs and camp experience to over 50,000 young people. Through the Learning for Life's in-school character education program, the council provided for 388 under-served students a value-based education to help students thrive. Among Boy Scout councils, the Orange County Council has the largest number of Hispanic youth among all other Councils in the Western Region and ranks sixth among councils in the nation for the number of Hispanic youth membership. Last year, Orange County Council Boy Scouts awarded 735 young men with the rank of Eagle Scout, an award attained to 3 to 4% of all Boy Scouts in America and by 7% of all Boy Scouts in Orange County. Every donation to the organization contributes to achieving the council's vision of being the preeminent youth leadership development and environmental education organization in Orange County.

Friends, family members, co-workers and supporters can cheer from down below once their favorite participants have started their descent down the Irvine, CA, hotel. Upon reaching the Drop Zone, a landing party will begin. Featuring radio and television personalities along with plenty of music and food, the celebration at the hotel in Irvine will excite supporters even more.

Following the charity event, family and friends can top off the day by heading to the Irvine hotel's FLOE Lounge for coastal cuisine and cocktails. Whether craving fish tacos or simply a celebratory dessert, the upscale Irvine restaurant satisfies all appetites in a vibrant atmosphere made for socializing.

For information about Over the Edge, interested supporters can contact Sally Lawrence at 1-714-546-8558, ext. 141.

Cloud data governance was previously an avoided function when cloud deployments were relatively small. With the rapid adoption in public cloud – both rogue and sanctioned, it’s not uncommon to find regulated data dumped into public cloud and unprotected. Skeuomorphism usually means retaining existing design cues in something new that doesn’t actually need them.
