Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Lightstreamer announced today that G.X. Clarke & Co., a New Jersey-based Institutional Dealer in U.S. Government, Federal Agency and Mortgage-Backed Securities, has implemented web based real-time streaming prices with Lightstreamer. This Streaming-Ajax (or "Comet") solution from Lightstreamer allows G.X. Clarke & Co.'s customers to access continuous, live pricing and to execute trades over the Internet with just a simple browser, thus avoiding complications which result when downloads or plug-ins are required.

Bernard Spanger, partner at G.X. Clarke & Co., comments: "We wanted to reduce our support load, constrain costs and improve our site by updating it with the latest AJAX push technology, avoiding complications for our institutional clients with older browsers and improving overall performance. Lightstreamer has provided a cost-effective solution, and the few custom features that they implemented for us resulted in a clean integration in a short timeframe."

Lightstreamer is a push engine conceived for live data distribution to any kind of client application (thin, thick, mobile, etc.) In the case of thin clients, it relies on the AJAX-Comet paradigm to stream real-time data to any HTML browser without the need to download or install anything on the client.

"We are pleased to see that Lightstreamer has again been recognised as the leading commercial Streaming-Ajax solution and has been selected by G.X. Clarke & Co.," said Simon Walmsley, Vice President Sales of Lightstreamer.

About Lightstreamer
Lightstreamer is a high-performance push/streaming engine based on the AJAX-Comet paradigm that delivers real-time textual data to Web browsers and to thick applications. When using browsers as a client, nothing is installed or downloaded (no applets or ActiveX, but only pure HTML/JavaScript). Lightstreamer was originally developed by the Financial Systems Integration activity of privately held Par-Tec SpA group (founded in 1998). In 2004 a separate company was formed within the group as an 'ISV' to provide Lightstreamer 'Push' middleware solutions for streaming real-time Market Data, or any live information, to web browsers and custom application clients. Lightstreamer is compatible with many browsers on the market, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc. For more information see www.lightstreamer.com where several on-line demonstrations are available.
