Stand 1G26, 3GSM World Congress, BARCELONA, February 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Truphone today confirmed that its mobile VoIP service is supported on three new Nokia handsets announced today: the Wi-Fi-equipped Nokia E61i, Nokia E65 and Nokia E90 models.
Truphone enables Wi-Fi-equipped mobile phones to make internet-rate phone calls (VoIP calls) over Wi-Fi connections. When the handset is not in Wi-Fi range it reverts from being a 'Truphone' to being a normal mobile handset, so people need only one device.
"The new Nokia E61i, Nokia E65 and Nokia E90 phones will be very popular and Truphone works on them from day one," said James Tagg, CEO of Truphone. "With other manufacturers also starting to put Wi-Fi on handsets, 2007 is the year that mobile meets the Internet - and that means Truphone VoIP," he added.
The Truphone client software has completed the Symbian signing process and is available for all new and existing Nokia Wi-Fi VoIP handsets.
Last week Truphone revealed interoperability with Google Talk, announcing that Google Talk users can connect with Truphone mobile handsets anywhere in the world for free. Calls between Google Talk and Truphone are free because they are pure VoIP calls and take place entirely over the internet.
Truphone is free to download and there are no monthly subscriptions or hidden charges. Truphone-to-Truphone calls and Truphone-to-Google Talk calls are always free; other calls are charged at characteristically low internet rates. Until the end of March 2007, calls from the UK to landlines in more than 40 countries are free, while USA customers can call across the USA and Canada for free.
Truphone announced its beta software for earlier Wi-Fi-enabled Nokia mobile handsets in September 2006. It is already available on the Nokia E60, Nokia E61, Nokia E70 and Nokia N80 Internet Edition handsets. Truphone for other devices will follow soon.

Using Truphone for internet phone calls is a true mobile experience:
- Customers are allocated a regular mobile number by Truphone for use 'on net' allowing free and VoIP-rate calls. When 'off net', inbound calls are forwarded to a GSM number of the user's choice, ensuring they can always be reached;
- Truphone is obtained for free simply by sending an SMS with the word 'TRU' to +44-7624-000000, or by visiting the Truphone web site (http://www.truphone.com/). A return text message is sent containing a link; clicking on the link launches an 'over the air' download process that installs Truphone onto the handset;
- The phone is then configured with Truphone's easy-to-use 'wizard' setting up access via Wi-Fi networks, ready for immediate low-cost or free calls over the internet. Go to the website at http://www.truphone.com/ to set up special services or top up credit;
- The process of making VoIP calls is the same as for making a normal GSM call, ensuring a seamless, familiar user experience, with calling integrated with the phone's address book and call log. Making a call is as simple as selecting the contact and pressing the green button. There is no separate application to launch or user interface to learn.
