Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Answers to "So You Think You Know ColdFusion?"
Answers to "So You Think You Know ColdFusion?"

By: Hal Helms
Sep. 17, 2003 12:00 AM

  1. The answer is...C. And did you know that ColdFusion processes application.cfm when an application page in the root directory or any of its sub-directories is requested?

  2. The answer is...B (False). If you need code that has its own scope, use <cfmodule> or <cf_tag_name>.

  3. Again, the answer is...B (false). In fact, arrays can handle complex data types such as structures as well as other arrays.

  4. The answer is_D. Hey, you didn't cheat and run this code before you answered, did you?

  5. The answer is_C. In fact the <cfwddx> tag (new to ColdFusion 4.0) makes it easy to pass complex data structures between ColdFusion pages, ASP pages, JavaScript pages_well, you get the point.

  6. The answer is_B. And did you notice how subtly we got a plug in for Fusebox? Really, though, if you're going to be a ColdFusion guru, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

  7. The answer is_D. If you use the <cf_tagName> syntax, remember that you don't include the file extension as part of the tagName.

  8. The answer is_A. It's important to note that the <cftransaction> set will not roll back non-database events that occur within the tags.

  9. The answer is_B (False). <CFSCRIPT> doesn't support user-defined functions; if you need these, you'll need to use something like JavaScript. If you want to create your own functions, send an email to CFWish@allaire.com and ask for it (another plug).

  10. The answer is_A. And you can get more WDDX answers at www.wddx.org.

OK. Here's how we score 'em:

  • None wrong: You da bomb.
  • 1 wrong: I can see by your outfit that you are a guru.
  • 2-3 wrong: Better renew your CFAdvisor subscription.
  • 4 or more wrong: Your mother and I had such high hopes for you_
