StorageTek and FalconStor plan to work together to develop a StorageTek-branded replication and mirroring appliance that can work with heterogeneous storage systems.
Targeted at mid-sized companies, the appliance will be based on FalconStor's IPStor software.
FalconStor executives say that the 2U Linux-based appliance will be initially geared towards disaster recovery and data protection and be able to handle tasks such as remote replication and snapshotting and real-time synchronous and asynchronous mirroring.
StorageTek said the appliance would leverage the capabilities of its B and D series disk arrays.
The widget is expected to be priced between $40,000-$60,000 and ship in August. StorageTek plans to sell it through its direct and indirect channels.
The appliance is part of a broad alliance under which StorageTek will also resell FalconStor's IPStor software.
StorageTek's Professional Services team also plans to leverage IPStor when it takes up enterprise data migration projects.
