Phenomenal NYC-Based Beatles Tribute Band The Fab Faux Return to L.A.'S House of Blues Sunset Strip to Stage Their World-Famous, Note-for-Note Recreation of The White Album on April 20
Fab Faux to Visit The Howard Stern Show on Sirius Satellite Radio on 3/28
LOS ANGELES, March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- It's an often-heard regret among music fans that they never got to see the Beatles play live. It's also a widely repeated maxim that NYC-based Beatles tribute band The Fab Faux are the closest anyone can get to the experience today. Their mind-bending live recreations of Beatles repertoire have drawn raves globally and, with spellbinding performances of the band's later material -- never played live by the Beatles before their break-up -- they've been making magical concert history. On Fri., April 20, they'll do just that when they play every song on The White Album, in sequence, at Los Angeles' House of Blues Sunset Strip.
Rolling Stone editor David Fricke called the Faux, "the greatest Beatles cover band, without the wigs," and at their White Album concert, they'll send up the genius album's 30 songs with an accuracy to the original material in musicianship and spirit that has to be heard to be believed. Released as a double LP in late 1968, when the Beatles were physically intact but close to disbanding, the album hit #1, became their top seller and claims #10 on Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time."
Fab Faux co-founder Will Lee remembers, "I bought The White Album the second it came out -- but I wasn't able to digest it all at once ... There are so many subtleties. And to us Beatles fans, when you really take it apart, you can tell they weren't having a great time together. A lot of the songs are almost solo stuff." That air of creative separation makes the classic album ideally suited for the Fab Faux's stellar five-man collective, who take turns on lead vocals in addition to their instrumental duties. Lee cites favorites including "I Will," "Blackbird," "Good Night," "Mother Nature's Son" and "Long, Long, Long," though every track is covered in rare form.
The Fab Faux came about in 1998 when neighbors Will Lee -- who's played with all 4 Beatles and is celebrating 25 years as bassist on the Late Show with David Letterman -- and Jimmy Vivino, guitarist/arranger for Late Night With Conan O'Brien's house band the Max Weinberg 7, discussed the idea during an elevator ride in their NYC building. Although Lee says, "At heart, we're fans just like anybody, we're doing it for ourselves," what truly sets the Faux apart from all other Beatles tribute bands are the extreme high caliber of its collective musical pedigree and their pure artistic dedication to the endeavor. Rounding out the line-up are drummer/producer Rich Pagano (Rosanne Cash, Patti Smith, Robbie Robertson, etc.), guitarist Frank Agnello (Marshall Crenshaw, Phoebe Snow, etc.) and ace keyboardist/guitarist Jack Petruzzelli (Joan Osborne Band, Rufus Wainwright). On April 20, they'll also be accompanied by the Hogshead Horns (including Blues Brothers, BS&T and SNL band alums) and the Creme Tangerine Strings.
Also upcoming, the Fab Faux will be heard on Sirius Satellite Radio on March 28 when they pay a return visit to The Howard Stern Show (Stern is a longtime fan). Previously, their most recent national media appearance was on Feb. 9, 2007 -- the 43rd anniversary of the Beatles' historic U.S. television debut on The Ed Sullivan Show -- when they played on the Late Show with David Letterman, whose home is the Ed Sullivan Theatre. "Having the chance to play Beatles music on that stage," says Lee, "was amazing."
As are the Faux in concert. Remarking on a previous NYC show, Popmatters.com's Gary Glauber wrote, "As a New Yorker, I was skeptical ... [but] these guys surprise you, both in their choice of music and in their flawless performance of it ... we were blown away." The Faux's April 20 date, only their second ever in Southern California, is expected to sell out quickly. For tickets, reservations & details, call HOB at 323.848.5100 or any Ticketmaster outlet.
