Interesting article. I think the Cloud services and cloud infrastructure lines are a bit blurred, but I agree with most of what you are saying.
Dont underestimate the SLA's role in accountability. For companies that have dynamic requirements and no down time can be afforded, make sure you have very tight SLAs. For example, OpSource provides a 100% SLA in the cloud and 100%SLA around production application environments. Now 100% is ideally perfect, it comes down to accountability, yo...
- Grass Roots Adoption Shows World-Wide Demand for a Squeaky Clean Web
Browsing Experience
New technology now does what Congress and all of its attempts at
legislation has failed to do -- block access to adult content without
creating government-mandated censorship.
The technology, dubbed ScrubIT (www.scrubit.com), by its developers, is
a free, effective and user-friendly technology now available to help families,
schools and businesses to block unwanted Internet content, said Anthony Webb,
president of ScrubIT.
The simple one-click approach to virtually porn-proofing a computer was
first spread on blogs only a few weeks ago. Since then, ScrubIT's ease of use
and comprehensive effectiveness has won users throughout the U.S., Europe and
Asia Pacific, including businesses and churches.
"We developed ScrubIT because we know families, churches, and businesses
are tired of the plague of pornographic and malicious websites," Webb said.
"We're excited for the possibilities this technology has to protect children
from the dangers of pornography on the internet. This has been quickly
embraced because of the free cost and its availability."
For businesses and other organizations, ScrubIT is now testing a more
advanced version of the DNS server that will allow IT managers to select
specific additional sites that they choose to block. That may include sites
that employees use for non-work purposes such as entertainment, shopping,
gambling, or sites that promote hate.
"This is not a software solution, it works by routing all Internet
traffic to a home or business router through a designated DNS server," said
company Vice President Jerome Bennett.
With a click of a button, all websites get routed through the special
ScrubIT DNS server. No software or firewall is needed to use the service.
ScrubIT was developed on the premise that everyone should have access to
all the good the web has to offer without having to worry about stumbling
across those things that many people find objectionable. While the web has
been become the No. 1 outside resource for almost everyone in the world, it
has also become the marketing method of choice for pornographers and
pedophiles. By "scrubbing" the internet squeaky-clean with ScrubIT, you will
not have to worry about your family or employees ever being confronted with
this type of material. Developers plan to provide basic service at no cost,
then possibly offer a paid plan later that would include the ability to
customize your internet surfing experience by specifying specific sites you
don't want your family or employees to visit.
In addition to pornographic sites, there are a host of other sites that
are notorious time-wasters. Can you imagine being able to put a block on
certain sites? The cable TV people have been doing it for years. This is an
idea that has finally come of age on the internet."
