(Montvale, NJ, August 18, 2003) - SYS-CON Media's highly anticipated new title LinuxWorld Magazine (www.LinuxWorld.com), hits newsstands today around the world. LinuxWorld Magazine can be purchased at specialty bookstores such as Barnes & Noble and Borders, as well as newsstands, airport bookstores, and other retailers.
The premier issue of LinuxWorld Magazine, which was debuted at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo earlier this month, is expected to sell more than 40,000 single copies worldwide. In addition, the magazine will be distributed to subscribers and will have a large number of bonus distributions, such as at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo and at SYS-CON's Web Services Edge - International Web Services Conference & Expo (www.sys-con.com/webservicesedge2003west/), which will take place September 30 - October 2, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California.
LinuxWorld Magazine's premier issue contains the Linux Resource DVD, a $198 value, offered free with the magazine on newsstands and to paid subscribers. Discount subscriptions were offered at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo and a special online offer is valid at https://www.sys-con.com/linux/subscribeCharterSpecialLW.cfm?ID=1 until August 31, 2003. On the first day of this offer SYS-CON received more than 3,000 orders and subscriptions.
LinuxWorld Magazine is the leading resource for the growing number of Linux professionals and corporate i-technology managers who are seriously evaluating and deploying Linux-based systems.
"We are very excited about the launch of LinuxWorld Magazine," said Fuat Kircaali, founder and CEO of SYS-CON Media. "We have been seriously committed to serving the Linux community through Linux Business Week, and LinuxWorld Magazine will be an extension of this commitment."
"With IDG's long-standing history of providing information to the Linux community through our LinuxWorld Conference & Expo and LinuxWorld.com Web site, our licensing agreement with SYS-CON Media to publish the LinuxWorld Magazine makes perfect sense," said Colin Crawford, vice president of business development and operations at IDG. "We are pleased to continue our commitment to Linux professionals everywhere through this partnership with SYS-CON to publish LinuxWorld Magazine and LinuxWorld.com."
"LinuxWorld Magazine's premier issue will be a collectors' classic," said Kevin Bedell, editor-in-chief of the new publication. "In our first issue we have exclusive interviews with Scott Handy, IBM's Linux luminary, and Eric Allman, the developer of sendmail. We also feature Eric Raymond, president of the Open Source Initiative. In 'The Rise of Linux in the Enterprise,' Vince Re, chief architect and a technology strategist at Computer Associates, predicts Linux dominance for the coming years. Gael Duval discusses the reasons behind the growing acceptance of Linux as the best solution for enterprise IT in 'Why Migrate to Linux?' 'Dr. Migration,' Mark Hinkle's monthly look into Linux in the Windows-centric enterprise, gives a detailed introduction to the Linux desktop in this issue. The premier issue features a wealth of knowledge for corporate IT managers, including the Linux Resource DVD.
"As the leading magazine for enterprise and IT management, LinuxWorld Magazine is the first true direct advertising vehicle for our partners who need to reach highly influential corporate buyers and decision makers," said Megan Mussa, director of sales and marketing at SYS-CON Media. "Linux is making serious moves into the enterprise, and corporate IT managers will need reliable news and information in order to successfully deploy their mission-critical solutions - LinuxWorld Magazine will deliver that information."
SYS-CON announced earlier that its print magazine Linux Business & Technology and online portal Linux Business Week will now be part of LinuxWorld Magazine and LinuxWorld.com. SYS-CON Media has been successfully publishing high-quality Linux content and weekly newsletters at LinuxBusinessWeek.com for more than three years, and LinuxWorld.com is often referred to by leading online news sources such as Google. Combined, these entities have more than 60,000 qualified readers, mostly corporate i-technology managers and development managers. LinuxWorld Magazine targets a print circulation of more than 90,000 readers. After Linux Journal's recent resignation from BPA International, SYS-CON's LinuxWorld Magazine is expected to be the only circulation-audited Linux publication in the world, bringing the highest possible value to its advertising partners.
IDG produces the largest Linux events in the world, and SYS-CON's LinuxWorld Magazine will be one of the leading media partners of IDG's LinuxWorld Conference & Expo.
