RINGWOOD, N.J., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Stars for Kidz, a leading provider of market research on young consumers, announced today the release of its Kidz Surfin Poll, the first to examine how young kids spend their time online. This poll delivers timely and insightful answers on how to connect with and better understand tweens and teens 8-14 years old using the Internet. The poll, conducted March 7-12, 2007, surveyed over 6,000 online kids and their answers were startling, insightful, outrageous and informative!
They told us that kids are accessing information not only for themselves but for their Moms. In fact, more than 14% of the kids with Internet access that responded said that they are planning to file their Moms' income tax return online this year! That's in addition to the many traditional and not- so-traditional chores that kids are performing online to help their parents ... travel arrangements, insurance quotes, bill payment, purchases ... That makes kids more responsible than ever and quite resourceful. And, when asked why they are filing their Moms' income tax returns, nearly half (47%) eagerly responded that they think their parents are clueless when surfing the Internet. This is great news, according to the Stars child development experts. It clearly indicates that kids are taking on more responsibilities for the family and are quite resourceful in helping Mom with her chores.
Hey - Peep This - Kids report the darndest things!
-- Kids reported that their top ten chores online include:
download pictures, find recipes, get driving
instructions, plan vacations, comparison-shop ... and
-- They use a variety of technology - wireless handheld
games, cell phones, web-enabled browsers - to access the
Internet 24/7;
-- And, often without their parent's permission ... but ...
It's All Good
"First and foremost, kids need to be recognized that they play an integral part in their family's lives," said Dr. Barbara Ottaviani, Stars for Kidz analyst and leading advocate for responsible marketing to children. "And, whether kids are helping Mom with her taxes, vacation planning or shopping, kids are learning first-hand the power and purpose of information. The computer is much more than just fun and games; it's a very practical tool where kids can apply their knowledge and newly acquired skills for their benefit and yours." So as the tax deadline nears, you might just want to ask your child to review your return.
