DULUTH, Ga., April 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WEGENER Corporation , a leading provider of equipment for television, audio and data distribution networks worldwide, today announced that its SMD 515 IPTV set top box will be demonstrated by Harris Corporation as an integral part of the Harris IPTV Ecosystem and Deployment Framework. The Harris IPTV headend solution offers bandwidth-efficient MPEG-4/h.264 video processing technology for telcos and other IP broadcasters looking to send multiple HDTV (high definition television) and SDTV (standard definition television) channels into the home simultaneously with targeted advertising and Video-on-Demand (VoD) services.
The demonstration will occur within the Harris Booth (North Hall, Booth N2502) during the National Association of Broadcasters Convention (NAB) 2007 from April 16 - 19, 2007, in Las Vegas. It will feature all of the components needed to integrate a reliable, cost-effective, end-to-end IPTV solution, including middleware, VoD servers, conditional access technology, and set top boxes. As a Harris IPTV Ecosystem Partner, WEGENER will be present at the booth to showcase its SMD 515 IPTV set top box, which supports MPEG-4/h.264 and MPEG-2 decoding for HD and SD video, plus the integration of third-party applications, and optional Personal Video Recorders (PVRs).
"Interest in the IPTV sector is growing and distribution of television over IP allows for new business models. With wide bandwidth available and the emergence of MPEG-4/H.264 video to compress the stream, increased video distribution is becoming possible. We're pleased to be working with Harris as the IPTV business model continues to develop and expand," said Ned L. Mountain, President of WEGENER. "WEGENER has been a supplier and partner to Harris on professional broadcast products for over 20 years and both companies have been focused on delivering quality video offerings through their long histories with television broadcasters."
At the Harris demonstration, the SMD 515 IPTV set top box will be shown working in tandem with Harris NetVX(TM) encoding technology, which provides telcos and other service providers with limited bandwidth to deliver outstanding picture quality at low bit rates to consumers.
WEGENER's full product line will be on display at the National Association of Broadcasters 2007 Convention (Booth #SU7915).
