Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Queplix Brings Open Source Customer Care Software to Both Enterprises and Small Businesses with QueWeb 3.0
First Commercial CRM Application Built On Google Web Toolkit (GWT) and J2EE Raises the Bar for Enterprise-Grade Customer Care, D

By: PR Newswire
Apr. 23, 2007 12:48 PM

PRINCETON, N.J., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Queplix (http://www.queplix.com/), a leading provider of commercial open source software for customer care, today announced the launch of QueWeb Customer Care 3.0. Available today in both Enterprise and free Open Source editions, QueWeb 3.0 is the first commercial software built on Google Web Toolkit (GWT) framework and Java Enterprise Edition (J2EE) - delivering the latest in Rich Internet Application capabilities while maintaining enterprise-grade security, stability, and scalability for large and small organizations alike.

When deployed as a new customer care application, QueWeb offers a powerful yet cost-effective solution, which can be tailored to meet 100% of a company's business requirements - from supporting unique workflow to integrating with virtually any existing IT infrastructure. QueWeb can also be used to breathe new life into outdated legacy CRM applications. Organizations can seamlessly transition to a flexible, web-based solution, without the costs, time, and change management typically required in traditional systems migration.

"The customer care problem is one that is overwhelming companies of all sizes - from the SMB who needs to compete, but can't afford enterprise-grade functionality, to the large organization who is saddled with an expensive legacy system, yet needs to evolve and improve efficiency," said Steven Yaskin, CTO of Queplix. "As a commercial open source application, QueWeb 3.0 has the versatility to address the needs of both audiences, offering the freedom to customize the customer care experience - via internal programmers or the developer community at large. And it features a proven partner in Queplix for ongoing support, product development, and validation of new third- party code."

At the core of QueWeb 3.0 is a collection of independent Java classes based on GWT, an open source framework that allows QueWeb to feel and behave like a desktop client would - with features such as keyboard shortcuts, visual enhancements, and quick speed-of-GUI response, all while running inside an Internet browser.

Queplix QueWeb offers a powerful, best-of-breed Customer Care solution, with enterprise-level functional modules such as:

-- Interaction and Case Management -- Ad-hoc Reporting -- Knowledge Management -- Email Routing -- Customer Portal -- Survey Module -- Defect Management -- Change Request Management -- Warranty, Contracts, SLAs and RMA management -- CTI Integration -- And many others

However, unlike its closed-core, proprietary competitors, Queplix offers open code which enables customers to freely customize, integrate, and build on top of QueWeb's rich, advanced platform. This gives customers a protection against vendor lock-in, as well as the ability to adapt its customer care solution to their own unique business rules and processes.

QueWeb 3.0 is available in three versions, including: -- QueWeb Open Source (OS), available as a free, open-source modified BSD license for up to five users. An SMB can utilize the standard features in QueWeb OS to deliver enterprise-grade customer care, or develop new features for more advanced capabilities. Additional support, services, add-on modules, and license upgrades can be purchased as needed. -- QueWeb Enterprise, for organizations with large customer care teams, and already proven to support thousands of users worldwide. It is also available under a modified BSD license, so users can modify, customize, and enhance the application to fit unique business models or proprietary processes. -- QueWeb Professional (scheduled for Q3 2007), for IT consulting companies and Value Added Resellers (VARs) serving customers with verticalized or specialized solutions. Features a QueWeb OS download along with a set of proprietary development tools, including: QueDesigner to more easily customize, configure, integrate and build additional functionality; and QueCrawler to "crawl" through company legacy metadata and extract business objects for the replication of existing business processes and GUIs.

In addition, Queplix offers an expansive library of modules to support the full range of customer care needs - from customer and knowledge management portals, to email routing with ticket creation and a full text search engine, to help desk specific features for escalation and contracts management, to advanced system administration functions, and more. Queplix will also offer vertical industry modules for pharmaceutical, medical, manufacturing, and other markets.
