We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 2 /PRNewswire/ -- ANDA Networks, the leader in carrier-class solutions for fiber and copper-based access networks, announced today at Light Readings' Ethernet Expo Europe the launch of EtherReach 1000, the company's new portfolio of Intelligent Ethernet-over-fiber Network Terminating Equipment (NTE) to address carrier needs for simple, cost- effective, and easily managed Ethernet access devices. The new EtherReach 1000 portfolio complements ANDA's EtherEdge 4000 Ethernet aggregation and EtherReach 2000 Ethernet over copper products, enabling carriers to offer a near ubiquitous Ethernet Service offering over fiber and copper infrastructure.
ANDA's new EtherReach 1000 series product line joins ANDA's MEF 9 and MEF 14 certifications across multiple product lines including both its award winning EtherEdge 4000 aggregation platforms and EtherReach 2000 series Ethernet-over-PDH/SONET/SDH based products. By adding its new EtherReach 1000 fiber based NTE products, ANDA brings a complete portfolio of access products with carrier class quality of service and universal interface capabilities. Additionally, ANDA extends it support for multiple types of Ethernet deployments by adding support for the new Provider Backbone Transport (PBT- PBB-TE) proposed standard as well as traditional Q-in-Q and MPLS deployment options to provide the most cost-effective and highly sought-after transport solution for carriers today.
"The demand for Efficient Ethernet transport is high, and we are offering carriers flexible options to meet the requirements of all next generation Ethernet service architectures, regardless of protocol," said Charles Kenmore, President and CEO of ANDA Networks. "The new EtherReach 1000 series enables continued acceleration of Ethernet service deployments now over fiber, leveraging not only our flexible feature rich hardware and software platforms, but also our extensive field deployment experience of well over 7500 systems installed worldwide."
The EtherReach 1000 series is a family of fixed Ethernet access and demarcation products sharing a common software and hardware architecture to terminate Ethernet over fiber with a mix of different 10/100, 100FX and Gigabit Ethernet interface options.
"Large carriers such as BT are mandating PBT for their 21CN network, and several other large North American carriers such as AT&T and Verizon are assessing PBT as a potential method of simplifying and cost reducing their Ethernet transport networks," said Stan Hubbard, Senior Analyst at Heavy Reading. "ANDA's support for PBT is undoubtedly attractive to these service providers who are looking for ways to simplify management and reduce costs around Ethernet transport. ANDA's new offering broadens carriers' flexibility to deploy over either PBT based or Q-in-Q architectures while maximizing carriers' Ethernet service reach with one of the broadest Ethernet access and aggregation product portfolios available today."
In partnership with Iometrix Systems, ANDA's EtherReach 1000 will help further carriers OAM capabilities by supporting Iometrix's new Cnode software agent technology, which enables carriers to assess their Ethernet network's end-to-end performance for Service Level Agreements. "We've been involved with many of the carriers during MEF service certification, and one of their common complaints is a lack of solid OAM and performance management capabilities from their equipment providers. We've developed a software agent that allows carriers to actively access Carrier Ethernet service level criteria. Based on MEF defined criteria for delay, delay variation and frame loss ratio that offer standards based monitoring of important [Service Level Agreement] characteristics of the network," said Bob Mandeville, founder and CEO of Iometrix. "We are pleased to be partnering with ANDA to support their success in offering expanded product lines which will carry the new Cnode agent to meet the growing needs of carriers for Ethernet performance management."
EtherReach 1000 delivers hardware-based wire speed packet processing and switching for throughput up to 1000Mbps. The product line supports and leverages the new Ethernet OAM management specifications (802.1ag/Y.1731 compliant) and other rich software features supporting both Q-in-Q and new proposed PBT (PBB-TE) p802.1ay standards for Ethernet service deployment architectures.
EtherReach 1000 also supports extensive VLAN and OAM functionality to enable tiered service offerings for carriers. The series features multiple encapsulation methods, policing, port/VLAN mirroring, and new quality of service features for performance management from Iomtetrix Systems. EtherReach 1000 is sampling with key carrier accounts and will be generally available in June 2007. For more information, visit http://www.andanetworks.com/.
