CHICAGO, IL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 05/14/07 -- On behalf of the Council of Great Lakes
Governors, Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle today hosted a meeting among Great
Lakes State officials and business leaders, and Chinese officials and
business leaders featuring the signing of more than two dozen new business
agreements. These new agreements total about $10 billion in new U.S. sales
to China, supporting thousands of American jobs in the manufacturing and
other sectors.
Companies signing business agreements included:
-- Motorola
-- Dow Chemical Company
-- Alcatel-Lucent
-- GE Aviation
-- Nortel Networks
-- Oracle Software Systems Co., Ltd.
-- IBM Global Services
-- Hewlett Packard Development Company
-- Cisco Systems, Inc.
-- Analog Devices Corporation
-- Corning Cable Systems, Inc.
-- Emerson Electric Company
-- Honeywell Inc.
-- Sun Microsystems
-- EMC Computer Systems
"The partnerships forged today will create many new jobs throughout our
region and the country," said Doyle. "I am proud that we have been able to
take this important step to strengthen our national and regional
manufacturing base." He added, "As a result of our growing relationship
with the People's Republic of China, we are benefiting both of our
economies now and in the long-term. I look forward to future partnership
opportunities."
Joining Doyle at the historic event were Madame Ma Xiuhong, Vice Minister
of the Ministry of Commerce, People's Republic of China; Minnesota Lt. Gov.
Carol Molnau; Ohio Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher; Illinois Deputy Gov. Sheila Nix and
Director of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Jack Lavin; Pennsylvania
Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro A. Cortés; and Indiana Secretary of
State Todd Rokita.
The signings were held in conjunction with the Governors' Forum on Chinese
Trade and Investment in the Great Lakes Region. The Forum provided an
opportunity for visiting Chinese officials to network with State and
regional business leaders while learning more about the many opportunities
to invest in the Great Lakes region. The event marks another success in a
business partnership that has been growing quickly since Doyle opened the
Council of Great Lakes Governors' office in Shanghai, China, in 2003.
