Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

KPN Selects Amdocs for Next Generation Broadband Service Fulfillment
Largest Dutch service provider selects Amdocs Activation solution; is among the first service providers to deploy Amdocs fulfill

By: PR Newswire
May. 23, 2007 10:00 AM

NICE, France, May 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Amdocs , the leading provider of customer experience systems, today announced that KPN, the largest service provider in the Netherlands, has licensed solutions from Cramer, Amdocs OSS Division for end-to-end triple play fulfillment. Additionally, KPN is among the first service providers to deploy broadband access services that support triple play solutions using Multi-Technology Operations System Interface (MTOSI), the industry standard developed by the TeleManagement Forum. The solutions will be implemented by Amdocs Cramer Global Services and will be ready for deployment by July 2007. The announcement was made today at TeleManagement World Nice 2007.

Amdocs' Cramer solutions will enable KPN to productize business processes associated with triple-play rollout and will support specific network devices for broadband services. As a result, KPN can rapidly automate fulfillment processes to reduce time to market and lower the cost of ownership of the operations support systems (OSS).

"KPN and Amdocs' Cramer division have a long-standing relationship and Cramer continues to play an integral role in our long term 'All IP' transformation initiative," said Eelco Blok, board member of KPN Group NV. "Amdocs' OSS technology and vision enable us to continue to innovate and improve efficiency, from decommissioning legacy systems, to standardizing our OSS. As a result we can quickly launch new converged services to customers in shorter time frames and at a lower cost."

KPN has selected several products from the Amdocs Cramer OSS Portfolio, including Activation Engine, Automation and Activation Packs for the rollout of residential broadband services. Activation Engine is the OSS industry's first commercial, pre-integrated "inventory-centric" activation solution. Activation Engine employs a unique inventory-centric approach to activation which builds upon the universal network and service knowledge within the OSS suite to achieve automated activation.

Cramer, Amdocs OSS Division is working with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications networks for operators around the world, to deliver the solution. Amdocs Cramer Activation and Automation Packs have been integrated as part of Huawei's U2900 OSS solution to deliver an integrated fulfillment solution for triple play services.

The combined Amdocs and Huawei solution uses a preliminary version of the TeleManagement Forum's MTOSI Release 2 interface for activation which dramatically reduces the cost of integrating with the network. The MTOSI standard is considered by leading service providers to be a key enabler to reducing the overall total cost of ownership for network discovery and activation.

"KPN is among the leading providers working closely with Amdocs to design and deploy strategic OSS Transformation initiatives," said Guy Dubois, president of Cramer, Amdocs OSS Division. "As service providers build and deploy these new IP networks, they need an integrated OSS to automate fulfillment and streamline processes from customer order through to activation. This automation will reduce the long-term cost of ownership of the OSS and ultimately help deliver an intentional customer experience."
