WALTHAM, Mass., June 20 /PRNewswire/ -- LYCOS, Inc.(http://www.lycos.com/), a leading community destination for broadband entertainment content, today announced the following information from The LYCOS 50(TM), the 50 most popular Internet search results for the week ending June 16, 2007. For a complete list of The LYCOS 50(TM) and for in-depth text of The LYCOS 50 Daily Report, go to http://50.lycos.com/. Biggest Movers and Shakers for Week Ending June 16, 2007: 1. Vince McMahon 9,800% 2. The Sopranos 219% 3. Father's Day 209% 4. Barry Bonds 200% 5. Kevin Federline 200% 6. Cycling 114% 7. Al Jazeera 113% 8. World Cup 78% 9. The Landlord 73% 10. Katie Couric 71% Notes of Interest:
The WWE (#2) sees the biggest jump on this week's Lycos 50. On the June 11 episode of "Raw," Vince McMahon "died." He entered a limousine just moments before it appeared to explode. WWE.com is reporting the event as if it is true, stating that Vince McMahon is "presumed deceased after his limo exploded at the conclusion of last week's 'Raw,'" causing an incredible 9,800% spike in search activity for McMahon. According to the site, tonight's episode will mark the first time in history that "Raw" will air without McMahon. As it turns out, Vince McMahon's "death" is only part of a storyline. Like Dustin Diamond, Jaleel White, and other fake deaths which have preceded him, McMahon is actually alive and well. However, the "death" created a stir among fans as calls flooded "Raw" after the episode aired inquiring about McMahon's condition, and online interest soared with web users scouring the internet in search of answers. Meanwhile, heiress jailbird Paris Hilton (#1) continues her romp atop The Lycos 50, generating 42% more interest this week than the WWE.
Search Gainers:
Search interest is up 73% for the entertaining viral video titled "The Landlord," starring Will Ferrell (http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/74). Search interest in Katie Couric also jumps 71% this week after former CBS anchor Dan Rather issued comments regarding the CBS Evening News ratings slump, quoted as saying "The mistake was to try to bring the 'Today Show' ethos to the evening news and to dumb it down, tart it up in hopes of attracting a younger audience."
The LYCOS 50(TM) Top 10 Search Terms for the Week Ending June 16, 2007: 1) Paris Hilton 6) Britney Spears 2) WWE 7) RuneScape 3) Naruto 8) Disney 4) Pokemon 9) Clay Aiken 5) MySpace 10) YouTube About Lycos, Inc.
