We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 06/27/07 -- In light of the recent news reports of
widespread honeybee deaths, the U.S. Forest Service's celebratory opening
of a new pollinator exhibit at their National Information Center couldn't
be more timely. The event, scheduled to take place at 9:00 a.m. today at
the Forest Service National Information Center, is part of National
Pollinator Week, designated as June 24-30 by the U.S. Senate and the U.S.
Department of Agriculture, to publicize the importance of pollinators and
wildflowers and to call on the public to take action to support pollinator
health and abundance.
National Pollinator Week is being heralded across the United States and is
coordinated by the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign (NAPPC), a
partnership among over 120 organizations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico
including members as varied as the National Wildlife Federation, the U.S.
Golf Association, and the Aveda Corporation. NAPPC works to promote
awareness of the importance of pollinators -- the birds, bees, bats,
butterflies, beetles, and other animals that enable the reproduction of
over 75 percent of flowering plants and are responsible for as much as
one-third of our food supply.
Forest Service Chief Abigail R. Kimbell will provide remarks at the Forest
Service National Information Center opening. Chief Kimbell and Laurie
Davies Adams, Executive Director of the Coevolution Institute which manages
NAPPC, will preside over the opening ceremonies. The exhibit will remain
for two years.
During and after the Information Center opening, the Forest Service will
distribute learning materials created by NAPPC such as the Pollinator
Action Poster and the Pollinator Garden Wheel. The Pollinator Garden Wheel
is an engaging, colorful, and informational resource based on the recent
National Academies NRC study on the status of pollinators and is aimed at
generating on-the-ground results for pollinators.
National Pollinator Week is a project of the NAPPC and the Pollinator
Partnership, which are managed by the non-profit Coevolution Institute
(CoE). To join or to learn more, visit www.pollinator.org.
