Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Buzznet Names Internet Veteran Tyler Goldman as CEO to Continue Driving Substantial Growth
Buzz on Buzznet.com Drives Stealth Social Media Site To Third Most Trafficked Multimedia Site on the Web

By: PR Newswire
Jul. 26, 2007 12:00 PM

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Buzznet, one of the fastest growing social networking sites on the Web that lets users build communities and share media, announced today that veteran Internet executive Tyler Goldman has been named chief executive officer.

Goldman will draw upon his over 15 years experience launching and leading innovative entertainment and technology companies that include Movielink, Broadband Sports and Feedster. As CEO of Buzznet, Goldman will oversee all aspects of the social networking leader as it continues its expansion.

According to recent reports, Buzznet is among the fastest growing sites on the Web and the third most popular entertainment multimedia site on the Internet. Last week, Hitwise, a leading online competitive intelligence service, reported that Buzznet.com was the third most visited US website within the Entertainment-Multimedia category for the week period ending July 7, 2007 after YouTube and MySpace and was the 10th most visited web site for such category for the entire month of June. In addition, comScore Media Metrix, another online rankings service, recently reported that Buzznet.com was among the top 10 fastest-growing sites on the Web for the month of June.

Goldman played a major role in Buzznet's recent development, serving as chairman of Buzznet over the last year. The company has received investment support from leading technology venture capital firms, including Anthem Venture Partners and Redpoint Ventures.

"Tyler has a stellar track-record for developing and transforming innovative start-up companies into highly successful businesses," said Allen Beasley, Partner at Redpoint Ventures. "As an early investor in MySpace, we know the kind of leadership and vision it takes to build successful social networking destinations. Tyler could not be a better choice to lead this new and exciting business around social media."

William Woodward, founder, Anthem Venture Partners said, "Tyler's experience and proven success make him the ideal leader for Buzznet as it continues its fast-paced growth. His expertise and vision for new media have already translated to significant opportunities for Buzznet, which has grown to eight million users this year. Under his guidance, Buzznet's potential is almost limitless."

Prior to joining Buzznet, Goldman served as acting president of Feedster, a leading RSS search engine. Goldman had been senior vice president of business and corporate development at Movielink, the online film pioneer that is a joint venture among Warner Bros. Studios, Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment and MGM. Before that, Goldman was president and founder of Broadband Sports, a leading sports Internet company, which he helped grow to 300 employees and $20 million in sales.

Buzznet Founder Anthony Batt commented, "Buzznet continues to grow and improve. I'm excited to welcome Tyler as CEO of Buzznet and am confident he is the perfect person to take the helm at this stage in the company's rapid expansion."

"Buzznet.com enables all members of the music community, from fans to artists, to program the best and most authentic music experience on the Web, by contributing, connecting, collecting and consuming media," Goldman said. "I'm thrilled to be working with a company that's model is setting the bar in the social media arena and will lend itself to a multitude of possibilities in other music communities and beyond."

Buzznet.com provides a unique and intimate platform for users to collaborate and create authentic, media-rich communities around the music topics they love. Buzznet.com has quickly become a favorite destination among teens, young adults, leading musicians, and Internet celebrities and has experienced significant growth in membership, page views and unique visitors over the last six months.

Buzznet plans to re-launch the Buzznet.com music site in August, adding new capabilities for Buzznet users to experience everything about the music they love. Rather than connect with people around profiles or friend lists, Buzznet visitors enjoy unique and authentic experiences collectively programmed through the efforts of millions of members, including fans, artists like Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Cartel and AFI, and top Internet celebrities.

About Buzznet

Buzznet.com is the fastest growing social media community for music on the Internet with more than eight million users. Already, Buzznet.com is the home for communities created by top bands and social trendsetters and it has established itself as the premiere site to discover what's new and "cool" in the world of music and pop culture.
