SAO PAULO, Brazil, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes S.A. , the parent company of Brazil's low-cost airlines GOL Transportes Aereos S.A. ("GTA", that operates the GOL brand) and VRG Linhas Aereas S.A. ("VRG", that operates the VARIG brand), announced today that Captain Fernando Rockert de Magalhaes has been named GOL's Executive Vice-President - Technical.

Rockert joined GOL in January 2004 and is considered one of the most experienced executives in the industry. He assumed the role of GOL's Director of Operations in March 2005. In addition to being an experienced pilot with more than 16,000 flight hours, Rockert holds a degree in Law, a graduate degree in Administration from the College of Industrial Engineering (FEI) and earned his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at the Fundacao Getulio Vargas (FGV). Rockert is also a professor of Aeronautical Law.

Rockert began his career in the 1970s when he helped found Rio Sul, a regional airline in Brazil. He also worked as a VASP pilot for more than 18 years and was a simulation instructor based in Seoul, South Korea for FlightSafety Boeing (now Alteon), where he trained pilots for Korean airlines.

"We are confident that Captain Rockert's proven management skills and technical experience as a pilot will be an asset to the Company during this period of transformation in the Brazilian air transportation industry," said Constantino de Oliveira Junior, President and CEO of GOL.

Captain Rockert is responsible for flight operations, the Company's fleet, flight safety and maintenance. GOL and VRG currently employ approximately 1,600 pilots, 150 aeronautical engineers and 1,450 mechanics combined.
