Aporeto Named a 2018 Gartner Cool Vendor in Cloud Security

Aporeto, a Zero Trust security solution for microservices, containers and the cloud, today announced it has been named a Cool Vendor in Cloud Security for 2018 by Gartner, Inc. Gartner is widely viewed as the leading industry analyst firm for the security market.

The report, authored by analysts Jay Heiser, Neil MacDonald, Lawrence Orans, and Steve Riley, relates how “security and risk management leaders who are motivated to supplement native cloud service provider security capabilities are confronted with many options.” The report then identifies five cloud security vendors who offer “interesting and useful new products intended to solve the unique challenges of cloud computing.”

"We believe recognition as a Gartner Cool Vendor in such a fast-moving space as Cloud Security is an exciting validation of our differentiated approach to cloud workload protection," said Jason Schmitt, CEO of Aporeto. “Our customers are attracted to the way we cut through the ‘cloud confusion’ with a uniform security layer that spans container and non-containerized environments. The workload-agnostic approach of Aporeto creates automated, scalable and easier-to-manage security across hybrid and multi-cloud deployments, ultimately streamlining a secure migration to cloud.”

Aporeto’s approach is based on the Zero Trust principles that assumes everything is accessible all the time and any part of the infrastructure could be compromised at any time. Aporeto leverages a multi-attribute, contextual application identity and distributed security policy for powerful cloud-native security, rather than relying on network or perimeter security to adapt to cloud environments. With a Zero Trust mindset, security teams regain effective control and visibility of cloud-native applications by making security automated, scalable and infrastructure agnostic. Aporeto recently launched the first comprehensive microservices security solution, Aporeto Enterprise 2.0.

The May 2018 “Cool Vendors in Cloud Security” report is available for Gartner subscribers or clients to download here. Aporeto Enterprise 2.0 is currently available as SaaS or on-premise. For more information or to schedule a demo, please visit this website.

About Aporeto

Aporeto is a Zero Trust security solution for microservices, containers and the cloud. Fundamental to Aporeto’s approach is the principle that everything in an application is accessible to everyone and could be compromised at any time. Aporeto uses identity context, vulnerability data, threat monitoring and behavior analysis to build and enforce authentication, authorization and encryption policies for applications. With Aporeto, enterprises implement a uniform security policy decoupled from the underlying infrastructure, enabling workload isolation, API access control and application identity management across public, private or hybrid cloud. Signs of a shift in the usage of public clouds are everywhere. Previously, as organizations outgrew old IT methods, the natural answer was to try the public cloud approach; however, the public platform alone is not a complete solution. Complaints include unpredictable/escalating costs and mounting security concerns in the public cloud. Ultimately, public cloud adoption can ultimately mean a shift of IT pains instead of a resolution. That's why the move to hybrid, custom, and multi-cloud will ...

While a hybrid cloud can ease that transition, designing and deploy that hybrid cloud still offers challenges for organizations concerned about lack of available cloud skillsets within their organization. Managed service providers offer a unique opportunity to fill those gaps and get organizations of all sizes on a hybrid cloud that meets their comfort level, while delivering enhanced benefits for cost, efficiency, agility, mobility, and elasticity.

Serverless Computing or Functions as a Service (FaaS) is gaining momentum. Amazon is fueling the innovation by expanding Lambda to edge devices and content distribution network. IBM, Microsoft, and Google have their own FaaS offerings in the public cloud. There are over half-a-dozen open source serverless projects that are getting the attention of developers.
If you are part of the cloud development community, you certainly know about “serverless computing,” almost a misnomer. Because it implies there are no servers which is untrue. However the servers are hidden from the developers. This model eliminates operational complexity and increases developer productivity. We came from monolithic computing to client-server to services to microservices to the serverless model. In other words, our systems have slowly “dissolved” from monolithic to function-...
Docker is sweeping across startups and enterprises alike, changing the way we build and ship applications. It's the most prominent and widely known software container platform, and it's particularly useful for eliminating common challenges when collaborating on code (like the "it works on my machine" phenomenon that most devs know all too well). With Docker, you can run and manage apps side-by-side - in isolated containers - resulting in better compute density. It's something that many developer...
When a company wants to develop an application, it must worry about many aspects: selecting the infrastructure, building the technical stack, defining the storage strategy, configuring networks, setting up monitoring and logging, and on top of that, the company needs to worry about high availability, flexibility, scalability, data processing, machine learning, etc. Going to the cloud infrastructure can help you solving these problems to a level, but what if we have a better way to do things. ...
