Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Highly Anticipated Launch of the First Non-profit International Healthcare Web Portal JK1.CN in Beijing
Highly Anticipated Launch of the First Non-profit International Healthcare Web Portal JK1.CN in Beijing

By: PR Newswire
Sep. 17, 2007 11:00 AM

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Bridgetech Holdings International, Inc. (OTC Pink Sheets: BGTH.PK), a company focused on maximizing the potential of emerging healthcare products and services in China and the U.S., today announced the highly anticipated launch of http://www.jk1.cn/ -- the first non-profit international healthcare web portal developed in collaboration with leading healthcare institutions and organizations in China and the US. The portal was launched successfully with sourced content in both English and Chinese today in Beijing, China.

JK1 provides the Chinese readers with accurate healthcare and medical information spanning a wide range of subjects including information on the treatment, screening and prevention of life-threatening diseases such as cancer as well as hundreds of other common healthcare conditions in China. JK1 has two sections -- the public and the professional sections. While the former was successfully launched today, the latter will open at a later stage.

JK1 is the first healthcare web portal in China to source contents from world renowned institutions such as the U.S. Government's National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), as well as leading academic institutions including Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Vanderbilt and other well known institutions in the U.S. In addition, under a strategic alliance agreement N.C.N. Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Xinhua News Agency, will supply JK1 with Chinese news articles relating to medical and healthcare topics.

"This is an important day for China. The launching of the public section of JK1 provides the Chinese public with a much-needed resource on common diseases, as well as the most prevalent types of severe ailments such as cancer and their treatment options. JK1 will contribute towards cultivating a better informed public in China to care for themselves and to be more healthy When the professional section opens, the Chinese medical professionals will be equipped with a powerful tool to enhance their clinical and medical research," said Michael Chermak, Chairman and CEO of Bridgetech. "JK1 is a one-stop portal at a mouse click away, serving China 24 hours a day free of charge,"

The launch of the JK1 healthcare portal is a milestone achievement of the Sino-US Medical Exchange Foundation ("Sino-US Foundation") and Guangzhou Bridgetech Medical Technologies Development Co., Ltd. ("GBMT"), a wholly owned subsidiary of BTHI with a mission to provide access by the Chinese community to the world's most advanced sciences. Both the Sino-US Foundation and the JK1 healthcare portal are funded by Bridgetech,

"At Bridgetech, our motto is 'Doing Well by Doing Good'. The inspiration behind JK1 was our founding Chairman, Hong Kong-born Chinese Dr. Herbert Wong Yao Sing. Dr. Wong passed away in June 2006 at the prime age of 53, after battling lung cancer. He was dedicated to facilitating dialogue and exchanges between the medical professionals in China and the U.S. Bridgetech was Herbert's idea to create a company that could offer shareholders a significant opportunity while advancing the fight against cancer -- a win-win by doing well financially for shareholders as we do good for society. China was Herbert's home and he wanted to make a difference. China was his passion," added Mr. Chermak.

Carrie Yuen, Bridgetech' President in Asia, showcased live how to access JK1 for information on two of the most common diseases in China -- osteoporosis and breast cancer -- in front of an audience comprising government officials from China and Hong Kong, overseas and local guests and local and international reporters.

Witnessing the launch today also were representatives from the Wu Jieping Medical Foundation, China Anti-Cancer Association, 301 Hospital, People's Hospital and Xinhua News Agency.
