CA Delivers Comprehensive Recovery Management Software
New Releases Provide Superior Data Protection, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

By: Virtualization News
Feb. 7, 2008 01:30 PM

CA announced a major new release of CA Recovery Management enabling companies to simplify management, tighten security and speed recovery of critical business information.

CA Recovery Management includes new releases of CA ARCserve Backup, CA XOsoft High Availability (formerly CA XOsoft WANSyncHA) and CA XOsoft Replication (formerly CA XOsoft WANSync), offering channel partners and their customers the latest advances in data protection, business continuity and disaster recovery.

"This is the most significant set of new product offerings yet by CA's Mid-Market and Storage business unit", said Bill Lipsin, senior vice president of worldwide channels at CA. "Our customers require recovery management solutions that solve their most pressing problems and are easy to deploy, use and maintain—we are enabling our channel partners to address these needs head on."

CA's comprehensive approach to meeting the broad spectrum of customers' recovery management requirements has received acclaim from storage industry analysts.

"IT organizations are adopting multi-layered data protection strategies to ensure non-stop business operations," said Lauren Whitehouse, analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "CA Recovery Management provides comprehensive technology that meets mid-market companies' data protection and recovery requirements and has many new features and enhancements to CA ARCserve Backup and CA XOsoft replication and high availability products that offer significant business value."

The new CA Recovery Management solution includes:

CA ARCserve Backup r12
CA ARCserve Backup delivers comprehensive data protection with centralized management and advanced features designed to address changing business needs. This high performance solution combines innovative disk and tape backup with powerful, integrated anti-virus and encryption tools, making it one of the most secure "out-of-the-box" backup solutions offered today.

Highlights of the new release include:

  • New Centralized Management capabilities simplify administration of both local and remote backup through a single console.
  • Improved encryption capabilities protect critical business information from internal and external threats
  • Enhanced VMware integration provides increased levels of data protection and backup efficiency within virtual environments
  • Advanced reporting provides administrators actionable information to quickly optimize and troubleshoot their backup environment
  • Extended Virtual Tape Library and disk management capabilities simplify and speed the recovery process
  • New ARCserve catalog database takes full advantage of Microsoft SQL Server to improve manageability, reliability and speed recovery
  • Broader platform, media and application support make it easier for customers to deploy ARCserve across their diverse IT environment
  • Enhanced integration with CA XOsoft products provides seamless administration of both replicas and backup jobs within one recovery management solution

CA XOsoft High Availability r12 and CA XOsoft Replication r12
CA XOsoft Replication and CA XOsoft High Availability are robust business continuity and disaster recovery solutions that integrate replication, continuous data protection (CDP), automated failover and automated disaster recovery testing to help ensure the protection and recoverability of business-critical applications.

Highlights of the new release include:

  • Centralized Management allows administrators to configure, manage and monitor replication scenarios across multiple servers from a single location
  • New CDP repository makes finding information faster and easier, saves time and reduces administrative burden by allowing end users to recover their own data and email messages
  • Enhanced DR testing provides fully automated scheduled tests without affecting replication or users
  • Enhanced VSS snapshot management speeds data recovery
  • New Assessment Mode simplifies bandwidth capacity planning
  • New synchronization design improves data protection, reduces planned downtime and simplifies maintenance
  • Zero Reboot Upgrades are added to Zero Reboot Implementation to simplify and make planning and implementation of new installations and upgrades much easier
  • Scalability and performance enhancements allow administrators to efficiently handle larger file systems and the most demanding 64-bit applications

"We already depend on CA XOsoft High Availability to fortify remote data protection and rapid disaster recovery of mission critical data across our 10 offices," said Ben Weinberger, director of IT for Ruden McClosky, a Florida-based law firm. "Now, given all the benefits of the new releases, we are planning to replace our current backup solution with CA ARCserve Backup to take advantage of integrated recovery management."

The numerous enhancements to CA Recovery Management offer customers tremendous business value in safeguarding data stored on diverse Microsoft platforms, both locally and in remote offices.

"IT needs a wide range of recovery-management technology to ensure cost-effective and efficient protection of critical business information," said Greg Kirchoff, director, Global ISV Infrastructure Partners at Microsoft Corp. "CA continues to deliver innovative solutions that provide tremendous value in helping organizations achieve their high availability and disaster recovery goals across key Microsoft platforms such as Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008, Windows Essential Business Server, SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows Server 2008."
