Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud.
We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
The Intel Embedded and Communications Alliance recognized
LynuxWorks' commitment to innovation by presenting the embedded software leader
with the alliance's 2007 award for Overall Technology Alignment for a Software
Provider.
LynuxWorks received the award for its support of the Intel
Virtualization Technology (VT) and the Intel Trusted Execution Technology
(TET). A long-time member of the alliance, LynuxWorks received the award for
its development and marketing of the LynxSecure separation kernel, and its
support of VT and TET, which enables the execution of guest operating systems
and applications in their own secure partitions.
"This technology alignment award from Intel is a
validation of our long-time commitment to stay on the cutting edge of embedded
and enabling technologies such as virtualization and hypervisors," said
Robert Day, vice president of marketing, LynuxWorks. "LynuxWorks has a
long tradition of developing solutions that allow embedded developers to take
full advantage of the latest innovations in the market. We are honored that
Intel has recognized the efforts of our LynxSecure team in delivering and
evangelizing virtualization technologies."
Intel ECA Director Troy Smith said: "LynuxWorks has
consistently delivered outstanding results in product development and marketing
in connection with Intel's latest innovations. The technology alignment award
recognizes LynuxWorks' continued performance in bringing innovative new
products to market for developers of embedded applications."
Software separation and hardware virtualization technologies
enable one operating system to run within the same environment as another,
supporting multiple operating system environments on the same physical
hardware. LynxSecure is a separation kernel that partitions data and systems
resources, and controls information flow among the partitions. For users of
LynxSecure technology on Intel's VT hardware there is ample execution
performance when running one or more guest operating systems and applications
in a virtualized or para-virtualized partition. The close pairing of both
advanced hardware and software technologies offers the performance required by
today's demanding software applications, and sets both companies as true
technology leaders.
