Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud.
We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
Kevin Hakman, the AJAX pioneer, has been discovered to have bolted TIBCO for Aptana, the JavaScript open source IDE-cum-boundary-crashing-AJAX server house, where he will be director of product marketing and responsible for developer outreach, pretty much the job he had at Tibco for its General Interface (GI).
TIBCO acquired General Interface Corporation, the enterprise AJAX visual tools firm that Hakman co-founded, four years ago to complement its SOA products.
GI powers apps that look and feel and perform like classic desktop programs but run in the browser and Fortune-scale companies currently use it for rapid web application development and deployment on top of their XML and SOAP data sources.
Hakman is on the steering committee of the OpenAjax Alliance and chairs its IDE working group, which includes Adobe, IBM, Sun, Microsoft and Eclipse.
The group is reportedly close to delivering a draft specification for a uniform way to describe AJAX libraries and controls.

Does this imply anything about TIBCO's dedication to GI, or to open source?
