Cubic Joins Elite Group of Defense Companies That Have Achieved Exacting Quality Standard for Aerospace Industry

SAN DIEGO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 03/05/08 -- Cubic Defense Applications (CDA), a defense subsidiary of Cubic Corporation (AMEX: CUB), has received AS9100B certification, an internationally recognized and rigorous quality standard for the aerospace industry. Achieving the new certification required Cubic to meet significantly more stringent requirements than for the ISO 9001:2000 certification, which Cubic also holds.

"Cubic's success in achieving this certification reinforces what our customers already know, that our company delivers quality products and services," said Dave McAfee, Vice President of Product Assurance for Cubic Defense Applications. "We feel privileged to join the select number of companies in California who possess this extra level of certification."

The new certification increases Cubic's competitiveness in the aerospace industry. Many U.S. government customers as well as larger defense contractors look for AS9100B certification when awarding contracts. Cubic counts among its customers all branches of the United States armed forces as well as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and other top defense contractors.

Independent auditors from TÜV SÜD America, Inc. conducted the audit that led to Cubic's certification effective January 10. The certification encompasses design, engineering, parts fabrication, assembly, quality assurance, infrastructure and other process areas at the Balboa campus, home of Cubic's Readiness Systems and Communications & Electronics business units.

In their certification report, the independent auditors said Cubic's top management showed commitment to the audit process, and said the company's design process showed "exceptional" attention to details and requirements during all phases of projects.

TÜV's Director of New Product Development and Lead Auditor, Larry Eaves, stated: "The overall commitment from the Cubic Defense team was exceptional and was evident throughout the audit. There were many Best Practices demonstrated by the Design team as well as the Quality Management System (QMS) team. Overall, Cubic Defense did a great job in the implementation of the AS9100 standard."

Products manufactured at Cubic's Balboa facility include air combat training systems, ground combat training systems, defense communications and avionics equipment, and advanced tactical products. Employees at the facility also perform systems integration, depot repair and other technical services for training and defense communications customers.

Cubic received its first International Standards Organization (ISO) certification in 1995, and has been undergoing regular audits since then to ensure its Quality Management System continues to comply with ISO requirements and is being effectively implemented.

Cubic Defense Applications (CDA), one of Cubic Corporation's major segments, is a world leader in realistic combat training systems, mission support services and defense electronics. The corporation's other major segment, Cubic Transportation Systems, designs and manufactures automatic fare collection systems for public mass transit authorities.
