Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud.
We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
IGEL Technology announced its latest CE firmware upgrade.
The new firmware includes a Windows XP-like desktop that allows users to switch
between different sessions running in separate windows, enabling them to toggle
between an ICA
and a web session with the simple click of a button on the taskbar. This
provides users with an environment with which they are familiar, enhancing
functionality and ease of use while minimizing training needs. Local terminal
configuration is also made easier via the start menu if permitted by
administrators.
In addition, the latest firmware includes a VDI capable Leostream Client for
accessing virtualized PCs running on VMware. Since Microsoft Windows CE has a
full RDP client, the new IGEL firmware is ideal for customers looking to access
their virtual machines with a Microsoft RDP client.
"With this latest firmware release, IGEL continues to expand the
functionality and ease of use of its thin client offering," said Stephen
Yeo, worldwide strategic marketing director for IGEL Technology. "The CE
range is perfect for users who want Microsoft compatibility at an affordable
price tag."
The firmware also includes the latest Citrix ICA 10 client with increased
security levels and an improved user experience; including auto reconnect to
all disconnected applications upon re-login. This makes it ideal for users in
an environment with an intermittent network connection, such as wireless.
Finally, the inclusion of ICA
10 allows customers to not only access applications hosted on a Citrix
Presentation Server, but also VMware hosted desktops via the Citrix Desktop
Server, since it is also DDI capable. This is an excellent choice for customers
looking to combine the strengths of Citrix access infrastructure with the
flexibility of a virtual PC environment.
