Taking data storage, scalability and application performance to a nifty level using SOA Application Grid infrastructure will no doubt enhance data and application performance on Oracle architecture platforms, it also has the promise of a cost effective and efficient IT delivery model. NComputing announced that it has surpassed 1,000
manufacturing customers, with approximately 25,000 stations deployed. The increase
in automation applications for manufacturing has been a driver in NComputing's
manufacturing sales growth, as ever more computing devices are placed in harsh
production environments. NComputing virtual PCs deliver computing access at low
costs by sharing the power of a single PC among multiple simultaneous users.
And because NComputing devices have no moving parts, CPU or memory, they work
reliably where other products fail.
For manufacturers, deploying NComputing drives cost savings
as the number of required PCs is cut. NComputing's centralized approach allows
the PC itself to be moved into a protected environment, connected to the
virtual PC via standard networks, eliminating the need for enclosures or
components.
"We originally chose NComputing because of the
significant cost savings and the solution's ability to run our AS400
applications. Regardless of price, the results have been impressive," said
J.R. Muller, network administrator at BLD Products and Sloan Transportation, a
manufacturer of emission and engine control products for applications in both
automobiles and heavy-duty trucks based in Holland, Michigan. "Our plant
is a very unfriendly environment for computers, with brake hose dust
everywhere. We've found the sealed NComputing units to be extremely reliable --
in fact, one of our stations was up 95 straight days without a reboot."
The NComputing solution has been successfully deployed in
diverse manufacturing environments, worldwide. "The shift to a global economy
is driving fierce competition in manufacturing. With margins continually being
squeezed, uptime and reliability are critical factors in meeting production
goals," said Stephen Dukker, chairman and CEO of NComputing. "Our
solution delivers unmatched reliability, while enabling manufacturing customers
to quadruple available computing devices without increasing their IT
budgets."
Pollmeier operates a high-tech factory in Creuzburg, Germany.
The factory generates sawdust and continuous vibrations that can shorten a
computer's lifespan. "High availability PCs are critical to the smooth
operation of our factories, but we needed a more cost-effective, lower
maintenance solution," said Sven Raab, IT administrator for Pollmeier.
Pollmeier turned to NComputing, deploying NComputing terminals located
throughout the factory with a smaller number of shared PCs protected in the
central administration building. "The NComputing solution is a real
alternative to industrial PCs in rough industrial environments," added Mr.
Raab. "These devices are rock solid and just work."
The NComputing solution is based on a simple fact: today's
PCs are so powerful that the vast majority of applications only use a small
fraction of the computer's capacity. NComputing's virtualization software and
hardware tap this unused capacity so that it can be simultaneously shared by
multiple users. Each user's monitor, keyboard, and mouse connect to the shared
PC through a small and very durable NComputing access device. The access device
itself has no CPU, memory or moving parts like a PC so it is rugged, durable,
and easy to deploy and maintain.
