Plone and Drupal: Different Approaches, Different Results
paul.nowak wrote: Matt, thanks for the comments. I made an error on the version of Plone. It's 2.5 Plone running on Zope 2.9x. In regards to the additional products, we have a skin installed and we have a product that we had custom developed for us that connects to a PostgreSQL database. We've looked at slow PostgreSQL queries causing problems and have not been able to find an issue. We've also tested for the case where the PostgreSQL server is down and have not been able to create an issue. We therefor...

Spectrum Waveform Design Studio Selected by the European Commission Joint Research Centre for Interoperable Security Solutions Within the WINTSEC Project
Software defined radio technology expected to address wireless public safety communications challenges for European Union

By: Marketwire .
Mar. 25, 2008 11:00 AM

BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 03/25/08 -- Spectrum Signal Processing by Vecima ("Spectrum") (TSX: VCM), a provider of software defined radio (SDR) technology, today announced that the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) Sensors Radar Technologies and Cyber Security Unit (SERAC) will use Spectrum's flexComm(TM) Waveform Design Studio® for the research and development of software defined radio capability in the Wireless Interoperability for Security (WINTSEC) project. WINTSEC explores a mixture of complementary solutions to overcome the barriers for wireless interoperability across different security agencies, enabling first responders with incompatible legacy radios to communicate in a crisis situation.

The JRC will be using the Waveform Design Studio to achieve goals in the following areas:

- To support a possible improvement of European Union (EU) communications interoperability in the area of security and first responders

- To enhance understanding of emerging technologies, mesh networks and wideband communications

- To better assess future threats to critical network infrastructures

"The JRC is focused on solving some critical public safety communications challenges in Europe," said Mark Briggs, VP Marketing at Spectrum. "The Waveform Design Studio provides a cost-effective route for the JRC to access SDR technology. The Waveform Design Studio provides an integrated "IF to Ethernet" solution with complete run-time software, including a fully licensed Software Communications Architecture (SCA) software stack, a comprehensive suite of development tools, system examples and sample applications."

The Waveform Design Studio incorporates a single Xilinx® Virtex-4(TM) field programmable gate array and multiple Texas Instruments TMS320C6416(TM) digital signal processing devices, all interconnected through high performance communications fabrics integrated into an Intel®-based workstation. The Waveform Design Studio supports two receive and two transmit channels at industry standard 10.7, 21.4 and 70 MHz IF with bandwidths in excess of 30 MHz. It also supports "RF to Ethernet" for HF and VHF frequency bands.

ABOUT THE JOINT RESEARCH CENTRE

The mission of the JRC is to provide customer-driven scientific and technical support for the conception, development, implementation and monitoring of EU policies. As a service of the European Commission, the JRC functions as a reference centre of science and technology for the Union. Close to the policy-making process, it serves the common interest of the Member States, while being independent of special interests, whether private or national.

The SERAC Unit is one of the units of the Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen (IPSC). It contributes to EU policies related to the security of Citizens by applying secure information and embedded, smart sensing technologies. The areas of research deal with information and sensing technologies for the detection, mitigation and management of man made threats and natural hazards to critical infrastructures.
