Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

GTronix Opens New Design Center in Texas
Company Developing Analog ICs for Portable Consumer Electronics

By: PR Newswire
Apr. 14, 2008 05:00 PM

RICHARDSON, Texas, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- GTronix, Inc., a privately-held semiconductor company developing novel analog technology for consumer electronics, today opens its newest design center in Texas. The Texas design team includes veteran designers and technical staff who are creating low-power, mixed-signal application specific ICs based on the company's patented GTronix APT(TM) analog technology. The company's technology and products target applications in wired/wireless headsets, cell phones, PDAs, laptop computers, and audio/video personal electronic devices.

"GTronix has aggressive revenue growth plans and we will feed the company's product pipeline by leveraging the best analog talent in the industry," says Hubert Engelbrechten, GTronix CEO. "The Dallas area offers both experienced analog engineers and excellent support services that make it an ideal location for our next design center." He continued, "This new design center is a strong complement to our existing offices in California and Georgia."

The GTronix technology offers a tremendous opportunity to apply analog expertise to intense signal processing problems. The Richardson design team is specializing in analog very-large-scale integration (VLSI) for low-power signal processing. The company's technology provides a significant power savings for key blocks in the analog signal processing chain. And, by incorporating GTronix's leading-edge analog techniques, the company helps deliver revolutionary new consumer products that before were just not viable.

The design team, currently staffed with five engineers and a company founder -- all experts in analog/mixed-signal technology, is tasked with accelerating new product designs for GTronix. The company continues to look for experienced analog IC design engineers whose specific talents and knowledge can be applied to product development at the new design center, as well as the company's Fremont, California headquarters.

About GTronix's APT(TM) Technology

GTronix's proprietary APT Technology comprises a programmable analog structure and architecture that can intelligently process real-world data, such as acoustic, visual, and positioning. The patented APT Technology leverages a unique combination of three elements: proprietary analog algorithms; programmable floating-gate transistors to precisely tune analog structures during production; and unique circuit design techniques for implementing signal processing solutions.

APT Technology's breakthrough is in programmable analog structures that are compact and power efficient, which makes it possible and practical to implement advanced signal-processing functions in analog that previously required DSPs. Using APT Technology, signal processing solutions can be implemented with orders of magnitude less power consumption, a minimum of circuit elements, and lower cost -- an ideal combination for portable consumer electronics.

About GTronix

Founded in 2003, GTronix is a fabless semiconductor company developing novel analog technology to extract real-world sensory information for portable consumer electronic products. Its mission is to become a market and technology leader in bringing local intelligence to sensory interfaces through the application of its programmable and adaptive analog VLSI signal processing capability.

The company's APT(TM) Technology -- Smart Analog for Sensory Processing -- leverages proprietary analog algorithms, a programmable floating gate transistor structure and new circuit design techniques for implementing signal processing functions. GTronix will apply its APT Technology, covered by 15 patents, to create silicon and module products for customers requiring ultra-low power, size and cost for portable consumer electronics.

Headquartered in Fremont, Calif. with offices in Atlanta, GA and Richardson, TX, the venture-backed startup firm secured an initial seed funding round from the Georgia Tech incubator and subsequent rounds from Menlo Ventures and JAFCO Ventures. Its products will be manufactured by Vanguard International Semiconductor Company using standard CMOS technology. For more information visit http://www.gtronix.com/
