This Man Should Be Fired from His Job as a Magazine Editor
"Allegedly debuted," Keith? Why don't you get your lazy blogging butt off your basement chair and go to JavaOne this week?

By: Salvatore Genovese
May. 22, 2008 08:15 AM

This man, whose name is Keith Ward, should be fired from his job for basic incompetence as the editor of a magazine, and here's why. He posts a blog entry on May 6, 2008, in which he writes: "Virtualization Journal, coming in second, declares itself the winner," and he continues "I have no problem with competition. I think it's good for Microsoft, VMware, Cisco and AT&T. It's just as good, and healthy, for IT publications. I do have a problem, however, with publications that either a) Outright lie, or b) Are woefully ignorant, and don't check facts before they publish something."

What's your problem Keith, are you on drugs?

Coming second in a race? SYS-CON Media, the world's leading i-technology media company, has been publishing Virtualization Journal for the past three years at www.virtualization.sys-con.com - long before your publishing outfit expressed its intentions to cover the virtualization market last November and long before they hired you as an employee.

Please see my blog entry on this subject here. Its title reads "1105 Media Wishes to Launch Virtualization Website and Virtualization Conference" and was dated November 28, 2007, more than two years after SYS-CON launched its Virtualization Journal.

"That has happened with a competitor of ours. Virtualization Journal has announced a print magazine, that allegedly debuted today at JavaOne, a conference in San Francisco."

'Allegedly debuted,' Keith? Why don't you get your lazy blogging butt off your basement chair and go to JavaOne for a change, one of the most important technology conferences, around for more than a decade, and see how more than 5,000 copies of Virtualization Journal out of 12,000 shipped were picked up the first day of the show! A single day's qualified circulation of Virtualization Journal is more than you will accomplish in a year! By the way, have you ever heard of JavaOne? I haven't seen your rag around here. How about newsstands? Which newsstand can I find your magazine on? Any?

"Welcome to the party, Virtualization Journal folks. There's room for others here. Just try to be more careful when you make such bold claims. Doing a little homework on the competition wouldn't hurt, either."

Keith, let me explain to you how to do "a little homework" in case you did not learn how during your high school days; it may come in handy at your next job. This week I am not only attending JavaOne here in San Francisco, but have also already attended your 1105 Media Conference yesterday in Chicago. Here's what I found out at your conference, doing "my" homework by physically attending your event yesterday.

This was the only signage at the "empty" Chicago hotel where your event was taking place yesterday. A restaurant menu size green paper announcing your "conference" next to the sushi chef on the main floor of the hotel. When I say an "empty" hotel, I mean I was the only person on the main floor of the building along with the sushi chef getting ready for dinner. On Monday, May 5, 2008, 1105 Media was advertising on its website that this event would have 600 attendees?

...Then I found my way from the lobby to two floors down to the basement, passing under this half-folded conference banner. Down in the basement were two dark rooms with about 40 or so people in each room.I realized later that was your entire conference.

...And when I asked about this 1105 Media Expo Hall, someone pointed to this easel display as the entire exhibit floor of the event, which reminded me of the Mother's Day display at the local neighborhood kindergarten. I am not kidding - the picture above is the expo floor of this 1105 Media WebDesign World Conference & Expo on Monday, May 5, 2008, in Chicago.

My dear friend Keith, I look forward to seeing a copy of your magazine as well as your international conference & expo on the same subject.
