Fring Adds Linux, Java Support

Mobile Handsets Enhanced

Mobile phone application Fring announced support for Linux and J2ME mobile handsets. Fring is a mobile phone Internet application that allows users to make VoIP calls, messaging and chatting using networks such as MSN, Yahoo and GoogleTalk from their cellphones.

With the addition of Linux and J2ME support Fring now supports nearly 1,000 handsets, according to the Fring website.

“Our special new Java version has been named minifring,” the development team said on its website. “It will work on both Sony Ericsson and Nokia S40 2nd, 3rd & 4th editions, although these handsets do not support voice calling.

“We also today welcome Linux users (currently only the Nokia N810) to the world of full fringing features including internet calls, chat, presence, file transfer and more + some unique features.”
