LAS VEGAS, Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Despite a nationwide slowdown in the
gaming industry, Cannery Casino Resorts (CCR) will open its second casino in
little more than a year -- the Eastside Cannery Casino & Hotel -- on Thursday,
August 28. The first major casino to open on the east side of Las Vegas in
more than a decade, will officially welcome guests at 8 p.m.
Located in the Boulder Highway gaming corridor, the $250 million Eastside
Cannery Casino & Hotel features a 16-story tower of bronze, glass and steel,
with a distinctive saw-tooth roofline, making an iconic impression. The
opening will take place a little more than a year after CCR opened a
successful temporary casino at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino in Washington,
Pennsylvania. Construction is on schedule for the opening of The Meadows'
$175 million state-of-the-art permanent casino in the spring of 2009.
"Cannery Casino Resorts has been able to move forward during these
uncertain times with projects such as the Eastside Cannery because we surround
ourselves with talented people who have passion for their craft and are among
the most talented in the world at what they do," said CCR Principal William
Wortman. "Eastside Cannery is a reflection of that passion and our ongoing
vision and commitment to providing the best service for our clientele. Given
the state of our current economy, I cannot say enough about the work our
construction and design team did to build this incredible facility on time and
on budget."
"We take great pride in providing a first-class casino to the local Las
Vegas market, but we take even greater pride in the jobs we create for
hard-working local families," said fellow CCR Principal William Paulos. "Close
to 500 local construction jobs were created and 800 family-sustaining jobs
were created by Eastside Cannery are welcome news as our region endures some
of the toughest times in recent memory."
Guests will enjoy a casino that features more than 2,100 of the very
latest and most popular slot machines, 26 table games, a 450-seat bingo hall,
live keno lounge, a first-class poker room and a Race and Sports Book.
For meeting planners, the Eastside Cannery provides 20,000 square feet of
ballroom and meeting space to service a variety of meeting and convention
needs. The main ballroom is 17,000 square feet and can be divided into five
rooms. There are two additional meeting rooms, as well as two boardrooms
located near the main ballroom.
Eastside Cannery will offer an array of dining options to fit any budget
and craving, from the succulent prime rib served at Carve(SM) to the
delectable seafood ceviche at Casa Cocina(R). The soon-to-be locals' favorite,
Sweet Lucy's Tableside Buffet(SM), offers up a warm family atmosphere with a
variety of dishes to choose from that the whole family can enjoy. The Deli(SM)
will provide a quick pick-me-up while watching the action in the Race and
Sports Book or taking a break from the excitement of the casino floor. Snaps
24-Hour Cafe(SM) will feature traditional favorites from super-sized
sandwiches to garden-fresh salads to hand-cut steaks. Slated to make its debut
in the fall is the much-anticipated lounge and kitchen, ONE SIX(SM). Set atop
the 16th floor, the ONE SIX will feature an amazing view of the Las Vegas
skyline.
Guests can choose from more than 300 oversized rooms and suites that
showcase floor-to-ceiling glass windows, providing spectacular views of the
nearby picturesque mountains and the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip. The
450-square-foot guest room decor and furnishings are reminiscent of the
ongoing industrial theme of the property, but have a fresh 21st century feel
with wide-screen plasma televisions in every room. Guests who book the
600-square-foot corner window suites are treated to an exceptional view while
soaking in their in-room spas. Five 900-square-foot executive suites on the
top floor also are available with the finest amenities.
"We will never waver in our commitment to construct and operate
world-class casinos," Wortman said. "Eastside is a fantastic venue that people
will enjoy for years to come."
CCR's Pennsylvania casino, The Meadows, continues to be one of the
top-performing facilities on the East Coast. The permanent 350,000-square-foot
structure will have as many as 4,200 slot machines and integrate The Meadows'
long-standing tradition of harness racing with state-of-the-art gaming
facilities. It also will provide popular dining venues, including a premier
steak house and a specialty restaurant that overlooks the racetrack. A
centrally-located lounge and bar will feature panoramic views of both the
gaming floor and the racetrack.
"Construction on The Meadows is moving forward on schedule, and we
couldn't be more pleased," Paulos said. "It will provide 750 new
family-sustaining jobs to local Pennsylvania residents over and above the
400 positions that already exist at the temporary casino."
