Freman Hendrix Collects 4,000 Signatures in Only Three Weeks -- More Than 7 Times the Number Needed To Qualify for Detroit Special Mayoral Election
"This race will be won by committed volunteers willing to give their all for the community. I am very proud of how our neighbors have come together to demonstrate the strength of our organization," says Freman Hendrix.
DETROIT, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Freman Hendrix, leading mayoral candidate
for Detroit in the upcoming special election, has collected more than 4,000
signatures for his bid to qualify for mayor in only three weeks. This total is
more than seven times the 583 signatures a candidate needs to legally file for
a place on the February 24, 2009 ballot. He will officially file the petitions
at 3 p.m. today with the Detroit City Clerks Office in the Coleman A. Young
Municipal Center.
"This race will be won by committed volunteers willing to give their all
for their neighbors. The more than 4,000 voter signatures collected in just
three weeks shows how committed our volunteers are to creating a better
Detroit." says Freman Hendrix.
The news that more than 4,000 people signed a petition supporting Hendrix
for mayor follows three weekends of accelerated campaign activity during which
nearly 350 people packed the community center in North Rosedale Park on
September 22nd. Voters can only sign a petition once for mayor.
"People understand that being mayor is more than just balancing budgets
and doing development deals. The next mayor of Detroit must be a person who
wakes up every day understanding the pain, understanding the stress and
knowing the hurt that Detroiters are feeling," says Hendrix. "I believe I am
that person and if given the privilege to serve, I intend to wage their fight
everyday."
