"Cloud Computing by its very nature depends on the Network for both the construction of the Cloud as well as the delivery to users," declares David Bernstein, whose team runs Cisco's internal Cloud Computing platform. As VP and General Manager of Network Applications Infrastructure for Cisco, Bernstein has plenty of first-hand experience in this emerging category.

He will be giving a breakout session called "The Network as a Cloud Fabric - Where It Is and Where It's Going" at SYS-CON's Cloud Computing Expo, in San Jose, CA - which is being held November 19-21, 2008.

"Use of network facilities to enable security, isolation, and quality of service is possible today - yet is hardly used," Bernstein observes.

Utilizing these features, as well as going forward advanced techniques including virtualization-aware networking and geographically distributed VLANs will enable truly enterprise class application infrastructure, he contends. In his session, Bernstein intends to who that the network is in a unique position to enable Cloud interoperability.
