We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
Clod Barrera, the Chief Technical Strategist for IBM System Storage, will be presenting "New Storage Solutions for Cloud Computing" at SYS-CON's2nd International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo in New York City this coming March 30-April 1, 2009.
Cloud Computing requires resources, including the underlying information infrastructure, to be transparently scalable and always available. This session describes common storage requirements for Cloud Computing, Storage as a Service examples, and new IBM grid storage solutions that address the demands of information-hungry Cloud Computing environments. Three things you'll learn are: 1) IBM solutions that help Cloud Computing and other dynamic enterprises deliver required information serivces; 2)New information-based services becoming commercially available via Cloud Computing environments, and 3) How grid storage solutons differ from ordinary storage systems. You'll see how IBM technology and expertise can help give your organization an advantage in information-based service delivery.

Cloud Computing Is Swelling Into an Estimated $36BN Market The Cloud Computing conference theme this March is "The Delivery of IT Resources as Services" - with 100+ breakout sessions by leading industry CEOs and CTOs whose companies already recognize that what today's companies need above all is to be able to build infrastructures that can scale up or down at a moment's notice.
Over the next five years, IDC expects spending on IT cloud services to grow almost threefold, reaching $42 billion by 2012 and accounting for some 9% of total software sales. More importantly, spending on cloud computing will accelerate throughout the forecast period, capturing 25% of IT spending growth in 2012 and nearly a third of growth the following year.
Cloud computing helps IT cut infrastructure costs while adding new features and services to grow core businesses. Clouds can help grow margins as costs are cut back but service offerings are expanded.
