In regards to the additional products, we have a skin installed and we have a product that we had custom developed for us that connects to a PostgreSQL database. We've looked at slow PostgreSQL queries causing problems and have not been able to find an issue. We've also tested for the case where the PostgreSQL server is down and have not been able to create an issue. We therefor...
Brad Brech, Chief Distinguished Engineer in Systems and Technology Systems Software for IBM, will be presenting at SYS-CON's 5th International Virtualization Conference & Expo in New York City this coming March 30-April 1, 2009.
Virtualization is a key technology to the Energy Efficiency of data center. But its value goes farther than workload consolidation for resource utilization. Virtualization is also a key enabler to a dynamic data center that can adjust resource usage to application requirements. The session will provide some examples of dynamic energy management in the Data Center and provide the opportunity to discuss your ideas on the topic.
Speaker Bio: Brad Brech is a Distinguished Engineer in the Systems and Technology Systems Software organization, and has several roles in the Systems and Technology Software Architecture Board. He leads the Energy Management Technology Design Team, which is defining cross-IBM Energy Management Solutions. He speaks often to user groups and customers on the Green Data Center topic. He represents Systems and Technology Group on other IBM Architecture Boards and works directly with customers on a regular basis. Brad is the member of the IBM Academy of Technology and a leader in several Technical Vitality groups within IBM.
Brad joined IBM in 1982, after attending Steven's Institute of Technology. His first assignment was on the System/36 communications engineering development team, where he designed chips, cards, and I/O Microcode. Next he joined the AS/400 communications team where he worked on LAN, WAN, and Networking protocol teams. Brad led the engineering development team on the original FSIOP, which after several intermediate names, is now the IXS.
In 1996, Brad moved to the operating system side of the development lab, where he led the TCP/IP Protocol Performance team to greatly improve the performance of that stack. As Internet Enablement TCEM, he was also responsible for all internet and networking support within OS/400, as well as Security and Work Management. He held this role in OS/400 Software Development until becoming on of the System Architects for OS/400. In 2002, he moved to the new eServer Design Team where he led several projects across IBM Server platforms.
He is a motorcycle and volleyball enthusiast, and spends many hours either coaching Junior Olympic Volleyball or watching his two daughters play. He is active board member of two community charities in Rochester, MN.

5th International Virtualization Conference & Expo - New York City - March 30-April 1, 2009 Virtualization is reorganizing the IT industry. It underpins cloud computing by making it possible to separate the software from the hardware.Overall, the virtualization market has grown from approximately $560 million in 2005 to a forecasted $2.7 billion in 2009, according to IDC. According to Gartner, virtualization will be the highest-impact IT trend changing infrastructure and operations through 2012.
While data center virtualization is still the #1 market segment, it's starting to get competition from application virtualization, storage virtualization, I/O virtualization and virtualization for end users - so called endpoint virtualization. In fact, in almost any credible survey of Top Technology Trends for 2009, Virtualization and Cloud Computing top the list. In Gartner's Top 10 Strategic Technologies for 2009, it ranked #1, up from #5 last year.
