SYS-CON Events announced today that Subra Kumaraswamy, Senior Security Manager of Sun Microsystems, will be presenting at next week's Cloud Computing Expo Europe 2009 (www.cloudexpo-europe.com) May 18-19, 2009, in Prague, Czech Republic. The first major Cloud event in Europe is co-located with SYS-CON's Virtualization Conference Europe 2009.

His session will be entitled "Getting Ready for Cloud Computing - IT Strategy, Architecture and Security Perspective."

Subra Kumaraswamy has more than 18 years of engineering and management experience encompassing Information Security, Internet and E-commerce Technologies. He is currently leading a Security Access Management program in the IT Security office at Sun. His past roles include IT Architect, Software Engineer, and Security Consultant at Accenture, Netscape, Lycos and Sun. In his spare time he tries to get his hands dirty with emerging technologies to understand the security and privacy implications for users and enterprises.

Getting Ready for Cloud Computing - IT Strategy, Architecture and Security Perspective
Cloud computing is not a panacea for scaling legacy IT applications. However, it can help applications scale horizontally when designed and operated appropriately. Although Elasticity is a major benefit of cloud computing, elasticity of application will be dictated by application design, architectural pattern (tightly coupled vs loosely coupled web application), and management processes that support dynamic scaling of application to meet the workload demands. So what are the basic principles of application design and architecture when designing applications for cloud? What design practice need to be adopted when designing applications for PaaS vs Iaas? What are the constraints of loosely coupled architecture including network latency, database scaling, 3rd party web services, orchestration of servers performing the workload? This talk will discuss the challenges, architectural pattern for fully deployed application in public cloud (Azure, EC2, Google App engine), Hybrid architecture that supports cloud bursting and necessary design guidelines when designing applications hosted in cloud.
